Newbie here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. I first installed the CA-42 driver files as downloaded from the Nokia site. Then I restarted my PC and plugged in the phone through the CA-42 USB cable. My PC indicates that new hardware has been found and then begins to search for the proper drivers. Eventually, it gives up by saying "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.
I have tried a hundred different ways of doing this and even pointing the wizard to the directory hosting the nokia driver files. It would be great if someone could help me resolve this. Thanks,
Leo

I had this same problem. Are you using a real factory CA-42 cable? I bought this cable on e-bay thinking it was OEM. Turns out it was an Asia knock-off. Works perfect witht the drivers provided by the seller, but will not work with the Nokia drivers. Must be using a slightly different serial<->usb controller chip.

How could you tell it is a knock-off? I got one from EBay, but it looks legit to me.

After trying the official Nokia drivers 7 ways from Sunday with no success I knew something was amiss. When I very carefully looked at the box and cable I noticed that it never actually said "Nokia" anywhere. The font and colors very perfect Nokia, and it even listed phone model numbers that it was compatible with, but the word "Nokia" was suspiciously absent. From that I assumed/concluded that it's a knock-off. It works fine from what I can tell, but it must be a fake.

Hello everybody, I have the same problem. I bought a compatible CA-42 cable via taobao.com(like ebay, but it is more popular in China than ebay.com.cn). The driver provided by Nokia cannot work with the compatible CA-42 cable, so I guess we have to install a nonofficial driver. I also got a driver CD, if anybody need the nonofficial driver for CA-42 cable, I'll upload it.

PS: The compatible CA-42 cable must be much cheaper than the official one. I spent 30 RMB, about $3.75. How much did you spend?

@danielfeng
i bought a ca-42 compatible cable some days ago. and guess what, i have the same problem. i spend hours trying everything to get my phone work with pc, but it just wont be noticed.
well i have a cd with unofficial drivers too, but they can't be installed because my windows just says: no drivers found (though i typed the right path in etc.)
i really appreciate if you could upload your drivers somewhere. or send it as email whatsoever. your choice

lol <aol>Me too</aol>
I also purchased off of eBay, and mine also does not work. I used 3 different computer systems (1 Windows 98 SE, 2 WinXP), and none of the drivers work on any system. It does not say Nokia anywhere on the included information (except phone compatability), but it does say "Nok". I used the included driver disk, but it has the drivers for the wrong cable (DKU-5). Anyone know where I can get the right drivers?
