I have ATT TDMA service for 7 years. Was finally going to go to Verizon but decided to stay with Cingular and upgrade to GSm.Probably with Motorolla V551.

I live in NY area and work in NY/NJ. Friends say reception is good.Any ideas out there??

Cingular rep said I could Migrate to Cingular and get roll over minutes or still go to GSM but stay with ATT???? I thought ATT was gone??
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

PS- I go thru Cingular Business Rep. as I receive corporate discounts on service and equipment.

ATT GSM service is still there (its Cingular with ATT rate plans)...look over the rate plans and see which work better for you... usually they are pretty close and the corporate discount tends to be the deciding factor...

corporate equipment discounts can be as much as 60% pending what agreement you have

The Motorolla 551 lists for $299 but currently is $100 after rebates here in NY. With my corporate discount I was told I could get 2 NEW 551's for $79.99 total !! Also get 17 % off monthly airtime with Cingular.
Probably will just do that! Hope it works as good as TDMA does here in NY/NJ. icon_smile.gif

I live in NJ too. I had att tdma and switched to gsm several years ago due to billing issues and roaming problems due to the county I live in and att's lack of towers. I find the reception as good as any on the att network and the rate plans are far better then anything cingular has to offer. When done with my att contract I will go as long as I can until they make me migrate, then I will leave. Cingular customer service sucks, their policies are no where as customer friendly as att's. This migration thing is a ripoff. They say the network on cingular is more advanced and better. Maybe yes maybe no, I dont know, I only know my deal is better from att and when they kick me out, I will switch to verizon, I think their service is the next best after att. one thing though, dont break or loose your att gsm phone. they wont get you a new one, you will be stuck at the mercy of ebay sellers.

Hey thanks for replies! I have M 551 now for 1 week here in NY and really like it. The real test will be nx. week when my Vacation is over and I travel 40-50 miles daily through NY/NJ areas!

For now the corporate discount I received( $39.99) cost,no rebates, etc. was GREAT IMO.

Have to look into a Media plan I guess as I do like to play around on Mobile Internet when stuck in traffic/meetings!!!!

Do think the earpice volume is too low.Have it on top( 7) level and it is still low. Oh well, we will see !

Sorry Mr. Moderator for posting in CAPS. I didn't realize that was one of this forums 10 commandments. Now I see it is.
