I also got a USB cable from eBay. Installed the drivers that were on the CD, drivers show up as Prolific USB-to-Serial COMM Port. If I use the ones linked in this thread, they show up as Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge.
The problem is the same with both drivers. I install the drivers, everything goes in fine, but when I connect my phone the phone shuts off (is this normal?). Once I disconnect the cable, the phone will not turn back on unless I remove/reattach the battery.
As everyone else, I get no connection in the Samsung software.
EDIT: I found Prolifics site and updated drivers (updated 8-05, not like the 2002 and 2003 drivers on here and the CD). You can find them here -- search for PL-2303. They are on the 2nd page. I will give these a shot and post the results.
EDIT2: Installed the new drivers, drivers went in clean. Still no dice. I tried using Hyperterminal, created a new connection, connect using COM3 (as it's listed in Device Manager).. can't open the port. Bad cable maybe?

From what you mentioned that the phone will turn off when the cable is connected. It sounds like you have an incompatible cable. When you ordered the cable, did you specify or tell them which Samsung model you have? Try contacting the seller and ask if the cable you got is compatible to your phone. If not, see if you can get a replacement from them.

Hello,
Unfortunately, we are still having issues. Working together with the cable
manufacturer on this, using the e335 we purchased, there has been no
significant progress.
We have found that even using the Original Samsung Serial Cable for ths
model is causing the same problem. THis one is advertised by samsung for
the e335 and it will not work properly either.
We assume it is a driver issue with T-Mobile. The firmware they use has
caused similar issues on other phone models in the past. We are working on this still, but at the worst case, we will have to await for T-Mobile or
another party to release the proper driver.
In the interim, we can off anyone who bought from mobilesandpdas on ebay a refund and an apology.
We are 100% confident this cable is the right cable, as you can see it
charges the phone no problem and we have succesfully used this on the UK's E330, which is the same phone (but not T-Mobile). We are also confident we will get this bug worked out. Considering Samsung's serial cable will not even work, I assume the issue is being worked on there as well.
You must contact us via ebay and provide the item # you bought and it must be the same ebay id you bought with. We will not refund to any alternate accounts.
I do sincerely apologize. We do our best and we depended on our suppliers for the compatibility. We go all out when we need to test an item in situations like this. We also believe in following up to the end, even if it means haveing to take a loss. We apologize to those who spent hours fiddling on this to no avail.
Kind Regards,
Robert

I too purchased the data cable fro my X475 from mobilesandpdas.com via ebay. My problem is with the driver itself. I cannot find the correct driver. Take a look here to see a post I have on another forum at Zedge.no. (http://www.zedge.no/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=181308)
As soon as Robert found out about the problems I was having he refunded my money.
If there is ever a solution provided I would love to hear about it.

I gave up on the drivers for the cable I bought from mobilesandpdas. I ended up getting one from itrimmings on eBay and it works great.
Lots of people are stating that their cable installs with the driver without any problems but that they cannot get it to communicate with the PIMS software. If you are using Samsung then most likely you need to get a copy of EasyGPRS. The cable I purchased from itrimmings (http://stores.ebay.com/iTrimming_W0QQssPageNameZl2QQtZkm) will not comminicate with Samsung PIMS software but will communicate with the Samsung EasyGPRS software. Samsung used to provide EasyGPRS for free but it is hard to find it now. I found it free for download but cannot remember where. Hope this helps...
I found a great FREE ring tone converter. It is called PSMPlay. It creates them from midi files. Here is a link to a page where you can find informatoin about downloading it.

I gave up on finding the drivers for the cable I purchased from mobilesandpdas (on eBay). I purchased one from itrimmings at eBay and it works great. The only thing is... It only works with EasyGPRS.

Hi, the e105 driver is this one. It was updated recently:
