Open phone by sliding front cover up
Remove the 2 small silver screw covers on the peice with the camera lens attatched these are located in the corners.
Remove the 2 Small Phillips screws.
Close phone again.
Remove the battery exposing the rear of the phone and remove SIM card.
Remove the 4 small phillips screws in the corners and by prying the sides apart this will release the rear cover exposing the circuit board (PCB)
With a small screwdriver lift the ringer out which is on the top LHS and has 2 wires attatching it to the (PCB) then slide the phone half open giving you enough ribbon which attatches the 2 parts of the phone together to move slach so that the board can be lifted up from the top then un hock the chatger socket from the hole in the lower case.
the PCB will be loose.
Now to remove the board look onderneat it and you will see where the ribbon attatches this socked it coverd by some green tape peal back the tape then gently lift the little black bar that locks the ribbon in the socket and slide rhe ribbon cable out releasing the board from the phone.
Remove the number buttons by pushing it out of the case.
This will expose the 2 phillips screws in the metal case of the front asseblet which need to be removed
Then you can by prying the sides apart remove the front cover from the top by the camera un hooking from the bottom.
Un Hooke the camera ribbon which is on a small pulg on the top this just lifts apart.
The LCD board cam be removed by lifting the speaker out of the casing and lifting the board out being carefull with the big main gonnector ribbon (You may need to half open / close the phone to successfull get the ribon out.
Turn over the LCD PCB so the screen is downwards then carefully you will need to seperatre these 2 peices by putting a tiny screwdriver between the LCD and the PCB remoning the stick tape which attatches these 2 together.
Once seperated unsolder the 2 joints on the twin ribbon cable freeing them from the PCB and again remove the tape & lift the black locking bar for the LCD ribbon and remove the faulty LCD.
Replace the LCD and re assemble phone in reverse to disassembly instructions.
Good Luck any probs plese post or shout.
Regards

Our D500 has a faulty screen (it was going black, now it's just distorting and rearranging the graphics all over the place). I was quoted £85 for the ribbon to be replaced. The problem with that was that the shop couldn't actually guarantee that it would fix the problem, so that's quite a lot of money just to find out
Looking online I can see that the ribbons only cost about £15 and the special screwdrivers £3, so I'm considering having a go at replacing it myself. From your instructions for fitting a whole LCD screen, it looks like I'd only be dealing with screws and clips to change the ribbon - is that right, as I think once we get to soldering, I should hand it over to the professionals?
Also, do you have any opinions on the diagnosis?
Thanks Tracy

Have replaced broken screen on my D500 everything seems fine except that I have no backlight. Have checked the settings and it appears that only the time the backlight is on can be changed, it cant be switched off. Anybody any ideas?

I have the exact same problem! Any solution to it?
Could it be the screen that is faulty? I got it from that web site that was mentioned in an earlier post.
Thanks!

Had the same problem - dismantled the phone a few times and checked - everything seems ok ie all ribbons seem to be locked correctly ( with black bar) the only thing I can not be a 100% sure about would be with the soldering from LCD to the PCB via the small ribbon at the bottom of the LCD
could it be that?

Problem I had with my phone oringinally started with the white screen then no screen. This rectified itself and then the menu key and the left and up arrow on the main controller on the top slider.
I used the guide to take it apart and reseat everything hoping that would sort.
I also managed to break the black strip that hold the ribbon in. I do have a good connection and have taped it down with original green tape and tested.
Not powering up at all. Heart sank.
Plugged in the charger and top slider keypad lit as if charging but no sound and still not able to switch on. Proves some connectivity to the top desk from the bottom.
Help ?
