I have an LG VX4650 and I was wondering if there is a program where I could create my own ringtones from an mp3 and transfer it to my phone. If so, what kind of software do i need and do i need a cable of some sort?

Hi hpnotiqmimosa, A little off your topic but, I just ordered this phone (vx4650) and was curious to hear what your experiences have been with it? (Likes/dislikes etc.) At this point would you have made a different choice in phones? TIA. Kahuna

I could upload the mp3s via bitpim, but they wouldn't play on my vx4650 until I removed the tag information from them. That seemed to do the trick.
You'll see some posts about converting to wav, then reconverting to mp3, my guess is that also removes the tag info.

I had no problems uploading mp3 files as ringtones to the 4650 using bitpim (once I realized the USB cable is actually a serial COM port connection). I took tracks off an audio CD, converted them to mp3, clipped them down to size using CoolEdit, and uploaded them. I was advised to delete the brewringer index file after uploading, then reboot the phone and it will re-build it. Mp3's were resampled to 16k bps.
Getting the mp3 ringtones to repeat as ringers is a different problem (separate post).

I just got my coed and I have tried everything to get ringtones and wallpaper to that phone through BitPim. It will not work. It keeps giving me an error. I have it as 4600 under BitPim. Has anyone got it working? If so how did you get it working. I have BitPim 0.7.25 and that is the only one I can find.
Thanks,

Will this cable work with putting ringtones on the phone? Are there any better deals out there?

I just got a cable and software from http://global.mobileaction.com/ and it works great. I can put mp3's and pic's on the phone and do my contacts and calander too. The only thing I had to do for the mp3's was convert them through bitpim and then put them on the phone through mobileaction.

Select the 4400 vs. 4600.

It doesn't, so far I've tried. I found out the hard way. I'm going to try a few different things, since the newest form of Bitpim included my LG vx4650 directly on it. It just isn't detecting the phone. I'm not sure why yet.
If there's some other users who have that same usb cable as the one linked, I'd more than appreciate your guidance. It just doesn't seem to fit well into the vx 4650.

Has to then be either a driver or COM port issue (or both.)
