Well my dad added like $10 to his plan for an extra line so I can use his minutes on a cell phone. The thing is, the phone that came free with the plan is some crappy Motorola model where most of the time I can barely see the screen, especially outside as it is COLOR and the viewing angles and contrast suck and all. Also the battery and reception stink.

I am thinking of getting a new cellphone to replace my old one. I don't ask for too much. Here are some stipulation.

1. Color (If it doesn't affect battery life or easy reading too much), otherwise I would go with B/W for the high contrast and battery life.
2. Small and Durable
3. Good Reception.
4. Good Battery Life.
5. No bastardly joystick control.
6. $150 max without rebates)

Optional:
1. Camera phone (if there is one, its a plus. Not necessary.)

Unless you can convince me that a certain Motorola model is good, I don't really have any faith in the brand itself. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well if it were me I'd go with the Motorola 330 (or the upcoming 360), but I'm a poweruser, and that's probably not what you want. Although for the price, it's not bad.

I've been selling cell phones for a while (Sprint, Verizon, Cingular) now and have seen the bad ones come back and the good ones go never to be seen again, and these are the ones that get good RF, battery life, and durability.

Samsung and Nokia models have been great for this, Motorola typically makes really cheap crappy phones, and awesome high end ones (stay away from the V180/V220 type phones). If I were you I'd say go with a Nokia 3220, it's pretty affordable and will be durable enough for your needs. Watch that screen though since it isn't a flippy.

If you are concerned about screen cracking, maybe try the Samsung e315. I've heard complaints about those models, but honestly in my experience I've had nothing but good things happen to me with them.

Depending on your eligibility to do an upgrade this may or may not be within your price range but you could look at the New samsung E335, Had a chance to play with one tonight at work and they are pretty nice!
