I'm getting the e815 as a replacement for a broke Samsung a610. I'm on Verizon on a business account, and the main reasons I picked this phone were for bluetooth, cam w/flash, external memory, and iSync compatibility.
I use Mac OS X, and I found the e815 on a list of supported phones on the iSync page (iSync is the built in sync program in OS X).
Here's the link:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
On the chart, it lists all motorola phones on the list as being able to sync Address Book and Calender, but not Pictures or To Do list.
Now, on the Verizon page, it says the e815 doesnt support OBEX, or All Object Exchange: transferring everything back and forth, pics, contacts, ringtones, games, apps, whatever.
Can someone with OSX and an e815 confirm what works and what doesn't work?
I know Verizon loves to cripple phones, so they can make you pay for your own pics you want to keep by forcing you to email them to yourself to get them off your phone and on to your pc. And of course, they want you to pay for every ringtone, wallpaper, game, and minute it takes to download that stuff from Get-It-Now. And yes, it sucks.
But what about the external memory card slot on the e815? Can you take pictures to that, then remove the card and put it in a card reader on your computer and retrieve the pictures like that? That would be cool, I could deal with that. Or are the pictures locked, or some other kinda B***S*** like that?
I mainly just want to be able to back up my contacts easily, and copy the pictures to my pc without having to send a costly pix message. If someone can confirm any of this, cool. If not, I'll let ya'll know whats up when I get my phone Monday.

I'm thinking of purchacing the e815 and this is the only hold-up. If you have a 1000 entry contact list...you'd damn well better have a sync of some type! I really like most all of the other features. Has anyone connected it as a modem...even under the regular dial-up??? Tks.

I've had no trouble transferring my address book from the mac to the phone, but no matter what I do the phone lists the contacts by first name. Any ideas of a workaround for this? It doesn't seem to matter how I format them in the Apple address book, the phone won't get it right. It's not an impossible situation, but it's a drag.

I just bought my Motorola E815 yesterday. I have a 20" iMac G5 w/ bluetooth, and just linked the contacts information from phone to G5. Oh my god! It was fantastic! I have been a Verizon customer for 9 years, and a mac user the whole time. I just traded in V60 for the E815, transferring old v60 numbers into E815 at the verizon store. Then when home, backed up the phone via isync, and whammo! All the number were then in my apple contacts area! Maybe half the country is doing this already, but the guy at verizon didn't even know it would be that easy. He said I'd have to buy a pc/ home connect kit. Nonsense. It literally took me 30 seconds through isync without reading any directions!

So, my e815 is in the mail. I am a Mac user with most current OS X. I have Verizon as a provider. From what I have read here, it looks like it will sync my contacts and calendar with no cable? Can anyoe confirm this? What else works? Can you sync photos or MP3s? Is there a way to download ringtones and transfer them to the phone? I basically want to do anything that would be useful with bluetooth and isync...Any help much appreciated!

Hey, Tomswell,
Bummer that iSync isn't working for you. Like some other posters here, once I got it set up, it worked like a charm. (Oddly, I had to do the pairing step a couple of times. And I even had to reboot to get my AlBook to recognize my new bluetooth headset. Maybe you should try that.)
I haven't had a chance to hack into the phone to set it up so that I can download ringtones and pics, but here's a link that purports to tell how:
http://www.inetron.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=92&It emid=92
(note that you need a Windoze peecee to complete some of these steps, but it's supposed to work with Macs once you get it set up)
Good luck!

I recently got a VZW E815, and synching via Bluetooth w/ to a Mac running iSync 2.2 works fine, with one small issue--about half of the time that I try to synch, iSync reports that it can't find the phone, and recommends restarting the phone, after which it can in fact find it and synch. Is there some sort of timer on the E815 after which bluetooth is turned off? Any suggestions for how to resolve this?
TIA,
Sweth.
