I don't know if I asked this here or not before, but I can't seem to find out if I can use my phone as a modem on my data plan. I have an SMT5600 and I can connect via usb to the internet with gprs on my laptop, but I have no idea how much it costs me. I have the unlimited data connect for 40 a month, which I know covers any internet browsing I do on my phone, but I have no idea if that covers modem use also. I'd like to know if costs more before I use it all of next week as my primary connection away from home. Thank you for any help. Everyone has been great with my other questions.

I really hope someone can help me. I'd hate to be without internet access unneccesarily for a week. If there is somewhere else I should post, I'll be happy to if someone lets me know.

you should be able to do that. but as far as i know even the unlimited mediaworks plan is limited to 8 mb data. don't ask me why they call it unlimited.

a media net plan will only allow access to wap enabled sites...(sites that are made for a phone browser)...to fix your problem change to a laptop connect data plan...then you can go to any site.

yea, to view the "real" web, you need a laptop connect plan, currently pricing 59.99 for unlimited. If you have a higher plan, I suggest you switch because it's a "promo" price and may go back to 79.99 if you don't sign up for it now.

For twenty bucks you can connect with unlimited use added you your current cellphone plan. You can stay connected and have unlimited down loads and time for 20.00, I currently have the plan. It only cost the 59 0r 79 dollars if you don't have a cellphone plan. It's worth the twenty bucks to connect where ever and when ever you want. I am using the V551 and am real peased with the the data service with Cingular.

The smt5600 and the moto v551 do not use the same plans, being data connect and medianet respectively.

Cingular PDA Connect plan: may only be used with compatible palmOne Tungsten W, palmOne Treo, Siemens SX56/66, Motorola MPx200/220, Audiovox 4100 or similar Cingular-certified devices provided that the device is not being used as a modem with other equipment (e.g., computers or ruggedized handhelds) through use of connection kits, other phone/PDA-to-computer accessories, Bluetooth?? or other wireless technology.

when the SMT (or any other device) is tethered to your laptop, i believe it is charged at the no plan rate which is 0.01/kb because cingular does not support tethering.
