My V3 (razr) was stolen. Looking for some options. Here is the situation:
By coincidence, my V3 had run out of juice just before it was stolen (very weird).
9 calls were made to voicemail (?I have no idea why?) after my V3 was stolen and before I was advised by cingular to cancel all service (total 9 mins used). I have to assume that those calls were made from another device since my cell was outa juice. Cingular has said that they cannot track what device IMEI the calls from my SIM were made from. I find this very hard to believe.
Cingular claim that they can do nothing but register my V3 IEMI as stolen / lost. There is no tracking / blocking options available. Again, hard to believe.
I had only locked my phone using the 4 digit unlock code. I don't think I had changed the security code from the default which is plastered all over the user manual, therefore the phone will be fully functional to anyone who can look up the cingular website - an all my highly confidential info on the phone is available. I wish the cingular rep that sold me the phone had warned me of the uselessness of the 4 digit unlock code, and the importance of the security code. Seeing how knowledgeable everyone I have talked to at cingular seems to be about their service and products, it does not surprise me that this was not mentioned.
I have reactivated my SIM with limited calling options (ie no international calls), so I can call my number for a few hours and try get someone. Sounds useless, but is my last ditch attempt.
Cingular did credit me back the 9 minutes that were used after my phone was stolen (they told me this 3 times!), which I am eternally grateful for since I only have about 2000 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and w/e on my account (wtf, how stupid can their customer service people be!).
My question is: does anyone have any advice / experience that may recover / track a phone?

I am not worried about the cell being reset. I am worried about confidential information that is on my cell. Anyways, have to deal with that now. Quick follow up question.
I reactivated my phone so I could attempt to contact the person that has my cell. Almost immediately, my SIM started to record calls - all to the same number - the cingular vm number for boston. It seems a bit weird to me that someone would keep calling voicemail...anyone experienced anything like this? Below is the record of all the calls that were made.

Cingular can tell what IMEI a call is being made from, then track the IMEI to the owner. No GPS is necessary and nothing to do with who manufactures the phone. Thanks for your wisdom regarding 'laying' my phone around...you f***ing ret@rd.

cingular wont know who has your phone or where it is exactly.. they can get an area as far as when the person calls, cingular can track the nearest cell site. its going to be pretty damn hard to find out who has your phone though.. there are ways of changing the imei number such.. if the person that has your phone knows what he is doing.. its going to be impossible to find your phone. i hate to say it but cingular wont really try to recover your phone.. im sure it would feel a lot better finding out who has your phone so you can get it back and beat the crap out of them but its probably not going to happen. good luck in finding the phone but i just dont kno what you can really do to find exactly who has your phone.
just wondering.. do you have insurance on the phone?

Hooked on phonics works for Russ.
And Russ works for Cingular. =-o
Edit:
Haha. Russ edited his post after I burned him on spelling.
