Did you check:
go to it's 'Settings->Bluetooth/Serial' to check if it includes a connection such as 'COM4 \Device\0000010b'
Please also check your firewall settings to let Softick PPP and uploaded.exe access the net and act as a server.
Have you ever tried disable firewall completely in your PC?

the day i upgraded to xp long long ago, i got rid of that hideous xp firewall, and i dont use anything besides that. I do have a pos built in one into my trendnet router, but as far as i know they can connect to the internet, unless certain ports are required to be open. And under the com port section of Softick there is only com1 that shows a serial device that never changes.

It sounds like the 'COM4 \Device\0000010b' thing may be the problem since it should be the IrDA device and somehow Softick in your setup doesn't has that. I think the serial java thing need to recognize a COM port. In other word, your IrDA has to be recognized as a COM port (virtual one) as well. At this moment, I don't have any idea what is wrong with the setup. Hope other member can offer some help here!
