Phone Model: Black Razr
Service Provider: Cingular |

I'd like to buy a Black V3 as a gift for someone (they live across the country, 3000 miles away). They have been a Cingular customer since 1998ish (?). Can I purchase a V3 from my local Cingular store and ship it to them for local activation? Are there any "gotchas" to be aware of? (recent updates, service agreement, etc etc)
Thanks!

If they have service they will not need to pay activation they will just need to put their sim card in the phone. Downside is if you are not activating a line of service when you purchase the phone you are going to pay an arm and a leg for it unless you buy off ebay.

probably just account information, not too sure, if you buy it off a 3rd party site or even moto.com itll be unlocked, you can even try ebay, they have a load of unlocked new phones

I wouldn't go about purchasing it under their account unless you ask them first. That will prob extend their contract and would be an unauthorized upgrade on their account.

I got my v3 from eBay. It was an unlocked Cingular branded phone. All I did was slip in my Sim and call CS to change the IMEI (to get the home market established). It works great! Phone was reasonable $279 without extending a contract. You can look for seller named Batterymania. He's got very high feedback rating, and is currently selling 4-5 v3s/day. He has the black razr, but I'm not sure if it's Cingular branded or not. It may be T-Mobile.
