After visiting T-mobile's website and double checking my statement that insurance is available, it is. By Asurion! For $5.99 a month.
http://www.asurion.com/tmobile/newpolicy.asp?model=HTC
Enter HTC and model MDA.
If you check you'll see that they also insure Blackberry's.
So I'm guessing not only are CINGULAR employee's liar's they're ignorant too.

The plans for cingular's phones is one of the best it covers water damage some other carriers insurance doesn't cover water damage even. But as far as I've been told they only insure phones up to value of a certain amount. and I've seen phones with pressure cracks that shouldn't happen and very few of them have advisories on these issues. like a phone in pocket being pressed not to hard cracks lcd displays and stuff like charger ports etc. tell the warranty rep to check for manufacturers advisories on that specific model if the manufacturer. (not cingular) admits that there is a design flaw or a manufacturing flaw then it can be covered under warranty. stuff like flip/open mechinism failing screen crack issues charger port loose stuff like that.. be at the warranty dept if there is no advisory listed for that specific issue then it is out of warranty issue unfortunatly and then you mail phone to manufacturer instead of getting it replaced would probably be best option they should inform you if it's out of warranty issue or not and if it's not a warranty issue should have some kind of reasonable fee to repair the phone/pda

TimM, save cingular a head ache and cancel, because it's their choice whether a phone is going to be insured a not.

it's the providers (ins) not cingular that determine that. they have nothing to do with it.

HAHAHAHA! I certainly wouldn't want to be a headache to Cingular after they've treated me so well!! If they want to let me out of my contract and waive th $175 free I'll be more then happy to take my business else where. Until then I plan on being the biggest headache I can to Cingular.
You seem to be having troubles getting your story or facts straight. First you tell me You seem to forget that CINGULAR DOES NOT INSURE ANY PHONE. We go through a company called Asurion, they determine eligibilty for phones. NOT US. even though I proved that Cingular offers insurance. Now youre telling me TimM, save cingular a head ache and cancel, because it's their choice whether a phone is going to be insured a not.
I'm also confused as to why you continue to bring up the insurance issue. If insurance was available when I got the phone, like it is every where else, I would have. But the problem is not with insurance but with the warranty. Like I have mentioned several times, this is only 8 months old, Robyn's was only 8 weeks old. This is a KNOWN ISSUE with the phone and cingular refuses to do anything about it.
According to my converstation with www.pocketpctechs.com today, they get in several of these a week. Once they fix them they have YET TO HAVE ONE RETURNED. Which tells me that this is a manuf defect. One which Cingular or HTC refuses to do anything about. If HTC were to manuf this in the same fashion that www.pocketoctechs.com repairs them then maybe this would break off would it?
Now you have replied twice to my posts, but yet you have not responded to my statement which I am posting for the third time:
I find it very interesting that you felt it was necessary to respond to who actually does the insuring but you didn't think it was necessary to respond to my statement "First of all, if I were to go to Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Curcuit City, etc and bought a CD player, radio, TV, MP3 player, something that doesn't even require a 2 year commitment, and this happened they would either exchange it or fix it, most likely with no questions asked. I know Best Buy would because I've done it" Why is that? And isn't that what this is about? Not insurance, or who does the actual insuring but warrantee?
Can you explain why is that? Is it because you know I'm right? Or you are well aware that this is a problem with this phone and dont want to fix it? Go ahead, we all would like to know why you or Cingular feels this should not be covered under warrantee.
Maybe you could also explain why HTC wants $425 to repair this even though they didn'y build it right the first time. But www.pocketpctechs.com can do it for $60?

cingular didn't MAKE the phone so they would have to get advisory from htc before they could tell customers that it is a warranty issue or not.

t-mo insurance is 5.99/ month, and does not cover liquid damage. (8 months old = 47.92)
with a 110.00 deductable! 157.92 in all. cheaper to get fixed through pocketpctechs.
and it all depends on who you ask. mobiletechreview states they love the phone. pda's don't sell nearly as well as pda's except for the 8125. with the enormous numbers sold, you'll likely to see a higher number of issues than with other pda's. I have not seen another reputable website mention any issue with the port.
in regards to returning to a retail store, if you bought a 600.00 lcd tv and the s-video cable connector broke off, I'm not so sure they would quickly replace it with no questions asked, and they may refer you to the manufacturer.
software issues is something that htc can specifically control. if it's flashed/flexed, they will know and will not honour warranty. because a drop can knock a port loose, it is hard to say whether it is manufacturer/individual.
as a side note, cingualr is now only allowing insurance to be added withing the first 30 days of upgrade/new activation. after 30 days, one would not beable to add insurance to a device. (t-mo only allows 14 days)

Cingular customer before I ever worked here - never had a problem - and I rarely hear as much complaints now adays about cingular as the other companies, so you don't know what you're talking about. YOU - do not - KNOW - what - YOU'RE - talking about. i've wasted too much time discussing things with you - can't get those minutes back :-\
