Phone Model: Razr V3

Hi everyone, new to the site and it seems like there are quite a lot of knowledgeable users on these forums. With that said, I have a question about porting over my phone book from my old Cingular SIM card that I have just had service deactivated on, to a new Razr V3 that I purchased with T-Mobile Service. When I insert the Cingular SIM card into the V3 and power it on, I am prompted with an "Enter Subsidy Password: " prompt that has an 8 digit input field.
Does anyone happen to know what this password is, or would I have to contact Cingular and inquire about this? And if so, would they provide me with the information? And this is different than simply unlocking the phone, correct? Or are they one in the same thing? I just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they said I would have to contact Cingular. Sorry if this has been addressed before, I did some searching on this forum but could not really find a concrete answer on the topic. Any help would be appreciated, and all I am really trying to do is port over 100+ phone entries without having to manually input them all, so if there is an easy, alternate solution to that, any help would be appreciated. Or if someone knows how to go about obtaining this subsidy password, that would be great.

The reason for the "subsidy Pass.." is that your fone is locking to Tmobile and it will not accept any sim other then Tmobile. If this fone is bought from Tmobile you can ask them for that unlock codes.( althought their policy is that they will give it only you stay 90days after signing contract) . After unlock the fone will then accept the Cingular sim and give you access to the fone book that store in there even thought the sim is inactive ( deactivated account)

Thank you for the explanation, old_fool. i guess i'll really have to just wait the 90 days then! i'm not sure if the t-mobile rep i spoke with knew what she was talking about. she said i would have to contact cingular to obtain the subsidy password. between the terrible wait time (40+ mins) and lousy knowledgeability of cingular customer service, my first time calling them many months ago was also unfortunately, the last time i'd ever deal with that. i think i'll buy a usb data cable in the meantime.

Phone Model: Motorola V180

I have a similar problem. My original V180 went thru the washing machine, something they are not designed to do. Surprisingly the fone still works but the antenna was broken off (actually the thread inside the phone were stripped out) and the face screen doesn't work.
Anyway, I got a second hand one and apparently the previous owner had T-mobile, I have ATT. When I change my sim card to the T-mobile one I get the "Enter Subsidy Password". So do I need to go to T-mobile and have them unlock it even though I have no account with them? Actually I'm not sure there is a local T-mobile. I assume ATT won't have this subsidy code, is this correct?
Thanks in advance.

Hazmat, software can help ease the pain of phonebook transfers. Look into purchasing MobilEdit. This program allows you to copy, backup and restore phonebook/sim entries and multimedia files.
I own an IPAQ, so I have all my contacts in Outlook and it turns out the Motorola Software, Phonetools as well as MobilEdit connects to the Outlook contacts list - I got lucky.
Your problem is different however, I've always been with T-Mobile but you're coming from Cingular.
MobilEDIT will work with most any phone - the problem is obtaining a 'connection' to your phone. If the phone has infrared or bluetooth you can run out and get an infrared or bluetooth device for your PC, or use your laptop (most if not all have infrared built in) - if not, then unfortunately you'll be venturing into the world of proprietary cables (which is a big waste since you're no longer using the phone).
Call T-mobile and ask to speak to a Supervisor and simply explain the situation. You may try with the CS personnel also, but they usually can't do anything with that 90 day policy in place, they'll likely have to speak to a supervisor anyway.
Let them know that all you want to do is transfer your contacts from your Cingular Sim card....T-mobile is not unreasonable; their 90 day policy is to prevent people from buying the phone for cheap and then running off to another service or to sell the unlocked phone on Ebay. But if a supervisor hears a valid reason, I think they'll process it for you. What they do for the V3s is they send the request to Motorola, who then sends the code back to Tmobile - it takes 2-7 days.
If they persist to tell you to contact Cingular, then you're in trouble. Cingular is....strongheaded - to say the least. They don't ever unlock phones, and once you leave their service, that's about it for you. You'll need to find sources around here to unlock if neither scenerios work - but the V3 is a very easy phone to lock up completely, so whatever you do - be careful. It's not the cheapest phone....
KSrock:
Sim cards aren't usually locked. It's the phones that are locked. I've only encountered 1 sim card lock ever, and it wasn't here in the US. Sim card locks also don't generally go by service, but by phones....so the fact that your phone is the same, it's not a lock on the sim card itself. T-Mobile won't unlock the phone, since you're not a T-mobile customer, they will likely tell you to call Cingular, ofcourse, Cingular won't help you either - I guarantee they'll tell you to upgrade the phone or buy a new one from them. Technically, they can't help you anyway, since it's not their phone at all. You can try - you may possibly encounter a nice rep with some know how or someone who will TRY to help you, but I highly doubt it.
Your most viable option is to find a solution on the web, those phones are not the hardest to unlock.

Ok but by the time you even get through to anyone at customer service you could have gone to the website that duceduc so generously posted and downloaded all the software (with easy step by step instructions) and unlocked the phone yourself. Of course you need a USB cable though. And if you don't have one of those you need to get one. Because there is plenty that you can do with it. Again a good start is the above mentioned website, plenty of freeware. Of course you will have to get MPT....

There is no code.
Send it to me
Or i can send you a unlock pack so you can flash and flex to unlock it, but this is all the softwares you need to get to do the job.
PST 6.7 and the Patch .
MSS 3.6
