This is probably a most common question around this part of town, but how do you get around an ETF. a sprint rep posted that if your moving to another area where the carrier dosent offer service they must let you go, and thats what the sprint reps are trained.
does this hold true for other carrier? is there anyway to get FCC documentation on this?
Or are ther any other ways to work around the ETF?
thanks

Canadian providers are alittle bit tougher then American providers. I have a friend with Bell and she was leaving the country and they will not waive the ETF. She still has to pay it.

Has anyone ever persuaded a rep to waive the fee just because?

Not an easy task as most credits need to go through supervisors for approval. And a credit to cover the ETF would definately need approval from someone higher then a CSR.

I dont know how every carrier works but I know with T-Mobile you are required to fax in unaltered documentation showing that you have moved out of their coverage area. Its not as easy as calling and and saying you did.

With Cingular if you are under contract you will pay the ETF. The only person that can waive an ETF is an Area Manager with our company.

The ladder is as follows:
Customer Service Rep > Team Manager (10-20 CSR's under them) > Area Manager (2-5 of them) > Call Center Director

With an ETF, even if you move to an area we do not cover, it's in the contract that you would have agree'd to that we cannot guarantee coverage in ALL areas. If you have your phone longer than 30 days and it's not returned (buyers remorse period) then you are said to have accepted the terms and conditions.

Now if something were to go wrong and promises were not kept that were on paper (within the contractual limits) <is contractual a word?> then of course, something can be done.
