The CSR forum said you might help me learn how to unlock my MPx 220. I have service through Cingular. I bought the phone shortly after they were released by Cingular and paid retail . My work will require overseas travel soon and I hope to use the phone there.
Thanks,
Joe

"MPX220 unlock method
have an MPX200 locked to Vodafone. I have since sold it on ebay as unlocked without paying to unlock it. I think I fluked the unlocking solution to the MPX200. Unfortunately I don't have another MPX200 to test my method on. Otherwise I would have sold it on ebay.
My phone started switching itself off. Eventually I was put through to the technical section of Motorola. They suggested that rather than returning the phone I reset the software. They told me how to enter the master menu. You press the blue button in the middle of the rocker switch while powering on the phone. You then perform a master reset. You will lose any data on the phone while doing this. Save personal data to the SD card before doing this. While the master reset is happening (it takes 7 or 8 minutes) a menu flashes up (for a fraction of a second) asking "Unlock" and the left and right buttons at the top are marked "yes" and "no". I did this three times to check and get the timing right. I pressed yes when the menu briefly flashed up. My phone was then unlocked. I tried it right away with an Orange sim and it worked. Hopefully it will work for you too. Let me know if anyone is successful with this. You can't hurt the phone doing this (as far as I know because I am no expert). I did it three times with no adverse effect on the phone and it stopped the phone switching itself off."

Thanks, When I figure out how to save my info to my SD card I'll try it. I'll report what happens as soon as it happens.

Old_Fool, do you know how to unlock an i830 boost so I may use it as a normal nextel phone without paying everytime I connect or use the phone? If so, how much would you charge to do this?

Man alive! I wish I had known about all this locking business a month ago. I purchased the MPx220 earlier this year from Cingular. I moved to Sweden about a month ago and have been going through some torturous contacts with Cingular’s support department (that have included Motorola & the local vodafone store). It’s now come to the conclusion that the phone is permanently locked to the Cingular network. And Cingular has finally committed to the stance that there is nothing they will do to assist me in using my phone in another country. They are using this magical line: “Equipment purchased for use on our network may not function on other networks“.
I must say old_fool that I’ve read some of your previous posts on other threads and your assistance is outstanding. While I must wait a couple more days for my shipment to arrive from the US that contains my usb cable (want to save data to my pc first), I will repost to let everyone know how the above steps work out with the phone.
If the steps don’t work you can count on me posting here again looking for solutions into unlocking the MPx220.

Hej old_fool and any future readers - the above steps did not work in unlocking the MPx220. First, the Master Reset only takes about 3 minutes, not 7 to 8. When performed with the working SIM card (in this case Cingular) the home screen comes up without any fraction of a second menu flashes, and the only thing different is that all previous data has been erased. When the desired SIM is entered, with or without another reset the usual screens come up:
First, it requests the PIN of the new SIM card. Once that has passed it comes to the Network PUK screen which states "This phone only accepts SIMs from specific networks, and has been blocked. Contact your customer service center for the unblock code."
Then it asks for the Unblock code; New PIN; and Confirm new PIN.
Since I've gotten the Subsidy unlock code from Cingular I have tried it in conjunction with varrying other numbers. It always comes to the following screen:
SIM Failure The action you are attempting is not supported by this SIM.
I have tried testing this with other SIM cards with the same result. I'm open to any option that allows me to use my phone.

I have to look into harware then cuz so far all direction is pointing to some kind of a dongle that will unlock this MPX, I think it's about $200 to$250.
