i know this has probably been posted a lot of times, but i did a search and had a hard time coming up with a straight answer, but....
i just got V3 and am looking ot make my own mp3 ringtones on my computer, i know i need something like the mobile phone tools and the mp3 editing programs, doesn't anyone have a link to where i could get any of these programs for free, or do i have to break down and pay the 30 bucks for the mobile phone tools?

Congrats on the new phone, just got two myself!
I decided to purchase MPT off ebay, but while I'm waiting for it to arrive I wanted to try building a ringtone. It was actually pretty easy, but did take a couple of hours to get everything straight. Next time should be fairly quick.
I used a BlueTooth connection to "send" the MP3 file to my phone. These were the tools I needed (all free):
Exact Audio Copy (EAC v0.95 beta 3)
RazorLame (v 1.1.5.1342)
Lame
I sorta followed the directions given here: http://www.ninetoez.com/moto/maketones.html

Cooolsoft (cooolsoft.com) also has editing software-- Power MP3 Cutter. It's what I use to make ringtones from CDs/MP3 files, and the demo version is free. Only restriction on demo is max length of segment can be 30 seconds-- not really an issue for ringtones.

Yea whatever. This is stupid. This site wont let people post links to any files.
BUT I HAVE THE SOLUTION.
Use a peer to peer network.
www.limewire.com is the best, I use that.
BUT MAKE SURE before you download, you get the *copyrights* to MPT (mobile phone tools).
I am not suggestingly to infringe on the copyrights, but this is the same suggestion as ebay because those people dont have the rights either, they just send you the same program they downloaded.
Hope that helps. Just make sure you download a version that is 3.2 or higher.
