I have a motorola v220 phone with Cingular. Was able to use the phone at home for the first 2 months and get a full signal. Two weeks ago, the signal on mine and my wife's phone went to no signal. Called Cingular, and they sent us new phones. Still have the same problem. Called Cingular again. They said they would download some updates to our phones, and told us there was no change to any of the towers in our area. Does anyone have any idea why we could have lost our signal like this? Thanks.

the rep that told you that hadnt checked the issues log....
its fairly obvious the where you are the network is in the process of integrating (the merging of the former ATT and former Cingular network into 1 big one)
follow these steps
From the stand by screen, press the Menu key.
Scroll to Settings and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Network, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Network Setup, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Type, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Manual, and select by pressing the right soft key.
Select Done, and select by pressing the left soft key.
The device will search for all available networks.
Scroll to the second cingular and select View, by pressing the right soft key.
The device will display the Network ID.
To register on the network, select Register, by pressing the right soft key.

Thanks for your response. In following the steps you pointed out, when I come to the network setup, I have a choice of 3 bands. The choices are Automatic, 850/1900, and 900/1800. I don't have a choice for manual in the type. is there any way around this? Thanks in advance.

just leave it in automatic...North America is 850/1900 and the rest of the world is 900/1800

Elmo, with most Cingular phones and all Vseries, the network search is non-existant.
All it allows is which bandwidth to choose.

Blue phones allow you to change the network settings, Orange phones do not.
I was a Blue rep now I am an Orange. I was just as surprised to find out that orange phones DO NOT allow you to switch between networks like my blue V600 and V551.
