I have a VI-2300 (SCP-2300). I am interested to use it as a modem, not necessarily with the Vision plan. I have contacted Sayno, they state that sprint should give me information on this. Sprint tells me that it is possible, but I need to purchase a plan or they won't help me.
I have my own ISP and merely wish to make the outgoing call using my phone.
#777, does not work with this phone.
my laptop recognizes the phone and all drivers are installed, but I cannot get my 'Network connections' to communicate with the phone.

When I Query the phone in the 'Modem Properties' the phone is recognized.
Can Anyone Assist me!
Here is the log:

I understand that you would like to use your phone simply as a modem, unfortuanatly I highly recommend not doing so unless you purchase the plan. The vision plan DOES NOT include modem access. Whether you have your own ISP or not, makes no difference. In the Terms and Conditions it states:

"Unlimited Vision plans/options may not be used with Sprint PCS phones or smart phones being used as a modem in connection with other equipment (e.g., computers, etc.) through use of connection kits or other phone-to-computer/PDA accessories, or Bluetooth or other wireless technology."

You will be billed for every single KB that you send and receive through your computer on an individual basis. I have seen bills come through upwards of $15,000 because of this sort of usage!!!! icon_cry.gif icon_surprised.gif

PLEASE, purchase the plan before you pursue this any further. Thank You

Is that only if the modem accesses the Vision network?
What I am looking for is for my laptop to connect to my ISP using my cellular. I just want to be able to dial out, not necessarily plug into Sprints Vision network. I don't understand how they can charge me for data while they charge me for minutes.
It is like me using my dial up modem and having the phone company charge me their regular rate and then charge me a seperate rate for connecting a laptop to the phone line. I understand that sprint frownse on using the Vision network that is set up for the mobile phone and piggybacking your laptop on that network. I don't wish to do that.
Again, I simply want to have my laptop make a call to my ISP and communicate through it as a voice call.

Kiwi is right. Your phone will not be working to transmit sound, it will be transmitting data. This is data usage of the phone, and requires a phone as modem plan, or you will be charged $.01 per KB. Doesn't sound like much? Download a 5mb MP3 file and you just spent $50. I too have seen bills in the thousands because of this usage and guess what.... we don't usually credit it back because it is in your terms and conditions. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! PLEASE ADD THE DATA PLAN!

Frotho,

I have been a Sprint PCS customer for years. About 3 years ago, a Sprint Exec told me about using my phone as a modem. I have had a number of Sanyo phones since and all have worked in this capacity except the 2300 which I can't find the drivers for. Additionally, I have never been charged for usage. I don't tend to download anything...I only use the connection to check email and connect to my company.
Am I slipping through the cracks? As I have been a Vision subscriber for quite some time, am I grandfathered? I don't know. I will check with my Exec friend. Anyway, do you know where I can get the drivers?

this SHOULD work.. if you could post any progress here that would be great, as I'm waiting for a USB cable in the mail and was wondering about modem capabilities. Cheers!

http://kb.pcsintel.com/index.php?title=Sanyo_(Sprint)#Sanyo_VI-2300

site above had the following info

Known Issues
The Sanyo VI-2300 cannot be used as a modem. Sanyo made minor modifications to this phone's modem protocol, and have refused to publish the drivers for the device to be used with a computer

I believe that PAM service for a Vision phone is 40 for unlimited at this time, tally up minutes used and the cost of your ISP and likely it is not worth it.
