Hi,
I bought the Nokia 6800 w/ATT. I thought Nokia phones battery lasts very long time, but it seems that the battery is discharging about 1/3rd a day. I live in an area with almost no reception (from any carrier)...but I did not think this would drain the battery this baddly. Anyone have similar problem? Anyone have ideas what is wrong and what can be done?
thanks

But it could be.
A few years ago I was near a lake and there was nearly no reception, my old Nokia 3210 was empty in one day.
It's because the phone searches for the network and this is very energy intensive...

have u charged the batteries for 12hours for the first 3 charge cycles?
if not, then that could contribute because when u have a lithium ion battery, you need to fully charge and discharge the first few times before u can get some good battery performance. if u dont do this, then ur battery will quickly turn to shit.

I didn't fully charge/discharge. I did fully charge overnight. Should I try to fully discharge? How do I do that without it going into power save mode?
Thanks
PS. I thought only NiMh batteries had "battery memory". Li has that too?

yea, li-ions do, but Li-Polymers dont as much.
there is only one way to full discharge, use it till the battery totally runs out of gas

That's pretty bullsh**. It's a myth in my opinion. With every phone (N3210 & N6210, now N6610) I had, I just normally charged it the first time and used it as normal, never complaind the battery. It had always it full power.
Especially the new phones don't need that procedure.
My 6610 was fully charged after 1 1/2 hours the first day. I've got it now for about 6 Month and there is nothing to complain. Sometimes I even forget where my charger... could happen after one week

AFAIK the phone first discharges, if you plug it to the charger when the phone is turned off, and than charges.

i agree, i think it might just have been that you were in an area with poor reception...which is very battery intensive.
I had a Siemens S56 (dual-band, GSM & TDMA) ..which had great standby time (6 days maybe?) , but only when I wasn't flopping back and forth or searching for service.. I could have had a fully charged battery, and have it be empty by morning.

So, to sum up...
1. Discharging my battery may or may not help (sounds like a political argument).
2. Many phones drain battery quickly if poor signal area.
3. This is not a problem unique to the Nokia 6800...so if this problem persist, it may be I have a bad battery.
Correct?

I would say: give it a try, but I think, it won't help.

That's completly correct.

Correct, this could happen sometimes. When it is so, better take it to a Nokia Care Center and talk to them, I think they've got something to test the battery. If it's the battery's fault, you get a new one (warranty).

i think its just the low reception area, even the manual says something about low reception areas draining the battery more. i've had my phone and i've had no problems at all with the battery the 6800 is good
