I bought a copy of the Motorola Mobile Phone tools kit V 3.0 on Ebay, for use with my V710, (came with data cable). I am trying to just get the software to install. I keep getting an error code of 6002, and it tells me to delete my temp folder, which I have done. It tells me to verify my internet connection, I have a cable modem that works perfect and it tells me to quit all programs, which I have no program running at the time of install.

I have tried to install this on four different computers with different operating systems and I get then same error code. However the machine I am now on, uses Windws XP, service pack 2.

If it matters I am going to try to use this software with the USB cable, but the instructions say to install the software before plugging in the cable,... So what am I doing wrong?

I am having the same problem and I bought the cd and usb cable from shopcell.com.

I think we got scammed, because it looks like my cd is not an authentic motorola cd. I noticed when I look at other installation cd's there are no numbers around the center hole, but when I look at cd's I've burned, there are numbers. Also, I just looked at the back of my cd now and can read the letters "CDR UG 80E". And on the paper sleeve that the cd came in, the third line reads "that are in cluded..." which is not correct English.

I think that someone is trying to sell burned copies of the software, and that somehow the English installation is corrupted.

I am able to install the program in other languages (spanish, italian), but this doesn't really help because I'm not fluent in them. Also, the program has problems recognizing my phone, so it may be that I received a bad cable too.

I'm going to keep trying to find a way to get this to work, but I'll most likely return the cd and cable and ask for a new one, in an original unopened package rather than the velvet bag that mine came in.

Well, possibly you can download a different version or order a better one? I don't know if the install killed it or something just tweaked on the install...

May have something to do with Sp2, try installing a lower version and upgrading from there. I've installed this on Sp2 no problems, and i installed it with a lower version and upgrade it to 3.25b

Identical problem with 6002 error and tried to install on different computers. Must be copies with errors. It DID install in a foreign language, but that's tough to use if you aren't fluent. I can't believe some else figured that out too (other languages work!). How odd!

I can't get my E815 phone to communicate with the program. It installs it as a Motolora Modem, but my E815 is not in the dialogue box when it asks me to select my phone and therefore, it can't finish the install.

Didn't expect all of this to be such a problem.. Just wanted to install and use! I'm am optimist! It rarely happens that way.

Hi, been googling and found your site.
I have exactly the same problem as you folks when trying to install the Motorola mobile phone tools, mine is also version 3.0
I've sent an email to Motorola about this but wont hear from them for a few days.
It will install in any language except English.
I've sent an email to the supplier of this cd but as yet they've not replied. I thought first that it was a duff cd, but having read these postings I'm inclined to think that it's just buggy software.
I'll let you know the results of any replies. This is not good enough from a large concern like Motorola and yes, I'm very angry about it.
Regards
Mark

Hi Folks
Motorola say that software doesn't come with any warranty and made a few suggestions, none of which worked. I think that we have the official software as I purchased mine from a different supplier to pfs955 and Rocket_man, identical packaging and VELVET BAG!
Motorola suggested downloading the software from their site ( for a price) but it's the same version (3.0) and as the original didn't work I wasn't prepared to throw good money after bad.
My supplier ( MobileFun.co.uk) said to return it to them, then sent another email suggesting that my PC was at fault. Like Rocket_man, I tried the software on different PC's, two running Win XP and the third running Win ME, same result, installs in all languages except English.
My conclusion is that this is duff software. I'll return it to MobileFun.co.uk for a refund.
At least Motorola are now aware of the problem.
Regards
Mark

I Am Not A Lawyer, but if you purchased a legal copy of the software, you have a licence to it. Therefore, acquiring the actual software through means other than installing from the CD it came from would not be unethical, especially if the CD itself is b0rked.

I just got my box 0 MPT last night from a 'marketplace seller' on Amazon and the cd was already opened with a chip in it. There was even a tag inside the box that said "defective disk" but rather than wait for the guy to fix his screwup, I found alternate means of installation. I'm still gonna raise bloody hell with the guy for shipping me something that's very obviously been returned by someone else (to him or wherever he got the crap from) but for now I think I'll reboot to windows and see what happens icon_smile.gif

Ok dudes...I had the same problem as all of you, but with a little bit of trial and error, I have found a work around that will let you install the English version of the MPT software. The problem lies in a few corrupted files that are located in the "\mptools\US" folder of the install CD. The known corrupted files from my CD were:

\mptools\US\Setup.INX
\mptools\US\Setup.BOOT
\mptools\US\titlebit.bmp

What I did to resolve the problem was create a new modified MPT CD.

1) Insert your MPT CD. Cancel the autoload screen that comes up.

2) Open up My Computer/Windows Explorer and go to your CD drive. Copy all files located in the CD EXCEPT FOR THE CORRUPTED FILES and store them somewhere on your hard drive.

3) Go into the "\mptools\French" folder and copy Setup.INX, Setup.BOOT, and titlebit.bmp to the "\mptools\US" folder.

4) Rename the original "French" folder as the "US" folder and rename the original "US" folder to "French"

5) Use Nero (or any other burning software) and burn the new "modified" CD contents on your hard drive to a new CD.

6) Put in the newly created CD into the CD-rom drive and run its setup. When asked, select "Francais" as the language you wish to install. When this language is selected, ONLY THE INSTALLATION IS IN FRENCH. The actual MPT program itself is in English!

Done. Worked for me. Should work for you. Enjoy.
