Hello

I'm not sure how to read what boot loader version i have and whether i need to upgrade the flash. My S/W Version is R374_G_0E.40.9CR. Do I need the latest firmware to enable video recording?

Also what new features come with the latest firmware?

Appreciate any help

That firmware is new enough 8.23 bootloader you can see your bootloader if you put the phone into bootloader mode * + # + power at the same time. Benefits to new flash is if you go with 08R you get improved picture quality, 7+MB available memory and multiple letter search for the phonebook.

Hello you all!

I am from Caracas, Venezuela. My service provider is Digitel TIM.
I just got a Razr V3 silver, and I was searching arroud for some information about upgrading it's software, and I got here.

I have done some reading about the updating of the firmware in order to get some benefits like better display colors and video capturing.

My Question is.... Do firmware versions have anything to do with your service provider? --> I mean, are the firmware versions published in this forum custumized for Cingular (for example)? , Will my phone work if I flash it with a new firmware??

My SW version now is R374_G_0E.40.64R. I have googled it, and I found that people arround the world had the same SW version, so it gives me the idea that the firmware version doesnt have anything to do with service provider and I can flash a new version safetly, and my service will still work as always.

Anyways, I don't want to mess things, and I would like to read some of your smart comments about it, before I try doing something with my V3.

Thank you very much guys .-

Branding is not contianed in the flash file, its contained in the flex, the only thing that you may run into is language packs. Make sure that you choose a flash with a language pack that is appropriate for you, there are some different language packs available at www.motox.us

Keep in mind editing/modifying your phone in anyway is your choice and I will not be held responsible for any damage YOU do to YOUR phone.

THE NEWB GUIDE

Part 1 (What you Need to get)
-buy data cable
-download p2kman (you will also need either MPT or PST drivers for p2kman to recognize your phone, no posts about why p2kman wont recongize your phone in this thread, rather you should start a new thread).
-download V3 Video.rar I put together
-Check Firmware on your phone and make sure it is 90R or newer and has boot loader 8.23 or newer. I recommend R374_G_0E.42.08R which has the 8.26 boot loader. To check firmware press *#9999# or menu>settings>phone status>other information>S/W Version.

Part 2 (Making Backups)
-Open p2kman
-Above the Download seems button in the FROM box type 0032 & in the TO box also type 0032.
-Click download and save the file to a location but do NOT rename it, just leave as xxxx_yyyy
-Above the Download seems button in the FROM box type 004a & in the TO box also type 004a.
-Click download and save the file to a location but do NOT rename it, just leave as xxxx_yyyy
-Click on update list button
-find directory /a/mobile/system
-highlight file mma_ucp and press phone to pc button, save the file in the same location as you two backup seems
-highlight file mma_dcp and press phone to pc button, save the file in the same location as you two backup seems

Part 3 (Uploading New Seems)
-Extract V3 Video.rar
-Open P2kman
-Have phone on, sim in and connect to computer with cable
-Above the upload seems button, in the box labelled SEEM type 0032. In the box labelled REC type 0001.
-Click on the upload seem button and locate seem 0032_0001 in the V3 Video file.
-Wait till p2kman says ok
-Above the upload seems button, in the box labelled SEEM type 004a. In the box labelled REC type 0001.
-Click on the upload seem button and locate seem 004a_0001 in the V3 Video file.
-Wait till p2kman says ok

Part 4 (Uploading New Menu Files)
-Click on update list button
-Open directory /a/mobile/system
-Locate mma_ucp, hightlight by single clicking on the file and then click on pc to phone
-Locate mma_ucp in the V3 Video folder and click open.
-Click on the update list (this step is prob not necessary but doesnt harm anything)
-Again go back to directory /a/mobile/system
-Locate mma_dcp, hightlight by single clicking on the file and then click on pc to phone
-Locate mma_dcp in the V3 Video folder and click open.
-Click on the update list (this step is prob not necessary but doesnt harm anything)
-When list is done updating click on the restart phone button, when p2kman says phone is disconnected remove data cable.
-When phone powers up again Video should be enabled.

I have made some updates to the first page of this thread for new seem edits that I have recently found regarding the video record. They are not yet included in the Video.rar that I made as I dont have time to update right now.

Hey does anyone care to host this file for a bit. "V3Video.rar"
I was trying to edit the menu using P2k Menu editor, but if I change the "video" option to "video recorder" and upload it to the phone I don't get any image in place of the video. How do I add an image there to let me access it in the phone.

I finally got the files and updated the phone. I have the video recording function now, but I can't access the picture folder and or the camera anymore. The icons are there but they don't function.

Just a huge thanks for all the help with this subject. As of two hours ago I had never made any alterations to a phone. I have now just flashed my phone and done the seems so now I have video.

Just a quick note it might be worth editing the first post with a quick link to the flash guide on motox.

Asides from that I wish I had found the noob post first of all but I'm pleased to say I did it all myself, hex an' all from the origional post!

Thanks again.

PS. Just a quick one, I just changed the options to Maximum record time for video and it told me that not enough space was available (even tho only 6% is used). I presume I should hex edit this as well?
