that means i need to get a smart clip or get someone with a smart clip. goodie. another problem im having is every time i restart the phone im asked to call the provider again and after an hour of it saying that it asks for the sudsidy code.
what happens if i flash it so it becomes a cingular v400 or v600, will that illiminate the message? because then the phone would become a cingular brand phone, kinda. and seeing how im a cingular person it should work, right? or is it an imposibility to make it work without the code or smartclip.

You will need to unlock the phone, to get rid of the message, and to use your sim.

To get rid of "contact service provider" message you need to insert the original sim in the fone and power it on for 15 min it will go back to normal.
Let say this fone is Tmobile before you did anything to it then you need to get a Tmobil sim to insert it in, does not have to be a active sim either.

i don't plan on signing up with tmobile anytime soon. right now i have 2 years before i can even think about that b/c of my age and contract. by then i would have changed to a v3 or something like it.

You cannot make a T-Mo sim work for Cingular.
