Just wondering why Verizon has such a crappy choice of phones. Cingular/AT&T have so many nicer looking phones. I just don't go it. I like the service (not customer)/reception with verizon. I want to switch to cingular but I like the service with Verizon.

A lot more advanced companies are starting to only make GSM brand phone like sony ericcson. These companies tend to make nicer looking phones. Very few companies make only CDMA opeating phones. Many companies make both GSM and CDMA which holds them back from making more expensive looking phones.

So here is a stupid question, which is a better technology, CDMA or GSM?

Defintely CDMA. It has already been established and works well around the country. GSM is new and does'nt work well in rural areas. You get little to no service there.
Carriers use wavelength technology to pick up a signal. The smaller the wavelenght number the better signal is picked up. CDMA Verizon works with CDMA 850 when GSM Cingular works with GSM 900. It is only by a little bit, but it can make a difference in certain areas.

YOur going to start religous wars with that one. i-den, TDMA, GSM (which is another form of time division multiple access) there are a limited number of channels to be shared, CDMA uses spread spectrum and al transmissions are broken up and sent accross the intire specturm. because all users share the same apecturm you more likly to get dropped bits In the end it is the provider as much as the technology. CDMA cell sites are more expensive to build bu there are fewer of them requierd. One of the downsides of CDMA is the user has keep thier PRLs updated.
But the orignal question was about the selection of phones on verizon they tell you they do more testing and the phones requier more stringent testing. There are proably more GSM users world wide and because i-den (Nextel) TDMA and GSM is simlar technology, differing in packet size and time slot size yo have more customers world wide, though Sprint seems to get more phones than Verizon. Until recently you couldn't buy a VErizon phone without an extendable antenna

I agree.. that PRL update is annoying.Especially with my busy lifestyle I'm not about to press any number on my phone because my cellular service provider can't follow me anywhere I go and do it automatically.GSM is the best.Plus all Gsm users are not stuck in one particular phone for months.
