I downloaded the drivers and the PC Studio II, but can't figure out how to get it to work. When I click on tool, the file manager option is not highlighted or not available. My status says offline but I can't figure out how to switch to online or access File Manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at wit's end. Thanks in advance.

What cable are you using? Serial of usb? If usb, you need the driver. After you installed the driver, go to device manager and check under Ports (COM & LPT) to find the driver for ... usb-to-serial ... (COMx), x can be any number, 3 or larger. Go to file - setup of PIMS and change ports to COMx, and speed to 115200. Restart PIMS.

I'm having the exact same problem as thedebstress and I've got the same phone as well. I think I'm using a USB and I've checked that I'm using a COM3 port. I've set my speed to 115200 and done everything js1662 has said and I still can't get it online! Help...?

I suppose you have checked Device Manager and confirmed that the driver was installed properly and it is assigned to COM3. Am I right? By the way, which software is you using? PIMS & File Manager?

Yup. I even checked the Device status and it said, "This device is working properly." It's assigned to COM3. Yes, I'm using the Samsung PC Studio II PIMS & File Manager.

Do you know if you got the correct cable, i.e. a compatible cable? Is there any label on the cable? If yes, what is marked on it? When you plug the cable to your phone, does your phone make a beep sound? Does it show that it is in charging when the cable is connected? If it does, it is not a compatible cable, it shouldn't show charging.
If everything seems normal except that it still shows offline, the next thing you should try is install the same setup in another computer. By the way, did you download the PC Studio which is specific to E316? PIMS & File Manager for other models may not work for E316.

Just went to SamsungMobile UK. Js1662 raises a valid point. It seems that Samsung now refuses to make distinctions about the former PC Studio (successor to EasyGPRS) and Easy Studio.
Checking out software pages for D500 and other models that I know uses Easy Studio, it turns out that Samsung has renamed those to PC Studio as well. I find it hard to believe that they'd integrate the two separate softwares this quickly.
BTW, The PC Studio for either the X450 or the E310 should also work for you.

js1662, I think my cable's compatible? It says SAM S308 on it and when I plug it into my phone, there's a beep, but it doesn't start charging. I'm positive I downloaded the PC Studio specific to E316 and I even uninstalled everything, including the driver, and reinstalled it. It still doesn't work. I've yet to try it out on another computer. I'm thinking of using my brother's laptop, but I don't want to bugger it up. I'll have to ask him for permission when he comes home. Hope he lets me use it or else I've got no other computer to use. =\
azntg, I tried the PC Studio for both the X450 and the E310 and both don't work either. Grr...

Yes, you are right that S308 cable is compatible to E316. Is your cable using Prolific driver? By the way, when you installed PC Studio, did you install GPRS modem as well? If yes, does it also show COM3? I am not sure if it is related or not, I saw post that said they have to install GPRS modem as well to make it work. FYI, I have also installed GPRS modem in my PC although I never use it.

Yes, my cable is using Prolific driver and er...I don't think I installed GPRS modem. Where do I go to find this GPRS modem? I checked the samsung.com, but I can't seem to find it.
