I'm trying to switch to a motorola v557 that i bought from a friend (who also has cingular) from my nokia. however, when i switch the SIM cards the phone never gets service. I'm not sure that it ever registers the phone properly. do i need to notify cingular that i'm switching phones? do i need a different type of SIM card? Anyone have any experience relating to this? thanks a bunch!

does your simcard have the ATT logo on it or the CINGULAR Logo?

It has a cingular logo on it. Both SIM cards (my friend's and mine) are cingular. But I was wondering if there was any incompatibility between the two models. and how I get the cingular network to recognize that i'm using a different phone..
thanks!

all you should need to do is put in your sim (your phone number follows the sim) where they are from the same carrier
it sounds like the phone you were given is defective... does your phone work in the same spot?

It drops phonecalls all the time, but this seems to be a recent phenomenom. I just moved to LA and all this has started to happen. for instance I get practically no service anywhere in my apartment, but my friends with a motorola (any model) all get good signal. Do you have any experience with haggling with cingular to replace/repair a defective phone after the 30 days?
Thanks a lot!
