From the posts on this and other boards, it appears that the Version 4 software upgrade is now available in Verizon stores across the country. It takes anywhere between 8-45 minutes to for the Verizon technician to do the install. It's free and highly recommended.

ok then, well i just got my 8100, like 3 days ago, would it already have the mp3 upgrade installed on it, or would i have to go back to the store to get it? also, can i just use a usb cable to transfer mp3s from my cpu to my phone? if so what type of cable would i need? other than the mp3 issue im loving the 8100 icon_biggrin.gif

really easy to find out....does your MP3 player work? if so, you have the update. yes you can use the usb cable to transfer ringtones to your phone. a USB cable, the VX7000 cable works fine.

For the 8100...what is the best way to transfer music for the MP3 player? USB cable or MiniSD?

can you convert your MP3 files to ringtones? 2.99 per ringtone is too expensive.

I just ordered the USB cord off ebay and do have a MINI SD card also

Thanks for all of the info everyone. I am still leaning toward the 8100 but might just hold out to see what is on the horizon.

Now I am trying to decide if VZW is the way to go. I live in Phoenix and went into a Tmobile store and was impressed with what I saw ... liked how they could give me an idea of what my coverage might be from my home and work ... their phone selection didn't seem that bad (still need to research them a bit) ... any ideas on this topic?

Just go to the Verizon store and have it updated to V04. The clarity and strength of the calls are fair to good. The mp3 player works great as designed with the proper version of the software. Also, pressing the play button for 3 secs automatically activates the mp3 player, so the buttons do actually serve a function. Good luck and Happy Holidays
