Hi to all,
I'm new in here.
Just would like to ask if there's a solution with phone infrared unable to connect with other phone IR? The PC detects the IR but doesn't continue the connection. I could'nt transfer files on other phone and PC.
Any troubleshooting procedure about this problem?
I called the Nokia Care Center and they have to diagnose the phone first regarding with my problem.
Thanks a lot.

Are you running Windows XP SP2 or later? Nokia PCSuite for N6600 is known not to work with WinXP SP2 or later.

Yes I'm using Windows XP but I'm usually sending files like image and videos, phone infrared directly to my desktop just to back-up. I'm not using PC suite for 6600.
I've tested my phone's infrared directly to other mobile phone by sending a file but the message is always "Sending failed" And in the computer the icon of IR didn't appear in the system tray. But if I use other mobile phone the IR easily detects the other phones.
Is it possible that it could be the hardware or the built-in Infrared itself in the phone? I'm thinking of deep reset but not sure if the function of infrared will come back.
Any of you experienced this problem?
Thanks for replying

Did IR ever work on this handset? If yes, then a deep reset would be a good thing to try. However I personally feel it's a hardware fault.

Yes subhro, I've been using the IR of my phone for almost 8 months and it's working fine.
Is it possible that one of my installed applications affected the IR function? But it might be the hardware too.
Two possible solutions, bring the phone to service center or buy a bluetooth device and use the other connection option.
Thanks again.

I've encountered the same problem with IrDA and Windows XP SP2...
I had to start the Windows IrDA software manually everytime the phone connects...
Do the following:
Go to the "Control Panel" of Windows, open "Administrative tools" and select "Services".
I don't know anymore what exactly the name of the service is (since I've got IrDA not anymore) but it should be something with "infrared" at the beginning.
Start it manually when the phone is connected.
If this all doesn't work:
Check if the following files are in the c:\Windows\System32 folder:
irftp.exe
irmon.dll
wshirda.dll
driversirda.sys
driversrasirda.sys
If not, you'll need to copy them manually from the Windows CD. They are included in the cachei386driver.cab file.

I would recommend to go for Windows 2000 SP4. It is anyway a better OS.

Yes it is entirely possible that some runaway application had messed up IrDA. But this applies only to Symbian phones.

I think it's a hardware problem. My IrDa is not functioning properly connecting to other symbian phones like sending business card, images and tones. To PC the message is always "Unable to connect"
A little hesitant in deciding if I would bring my phone to service center or I just have to buy a bluetooth device in order to transfer my files to PC. I love to take pictures and keeping them is very important to me.
Little confused in my part....
