So I hear that you get 100 bucks towards a new phone after a 2 year verizon contract...but I forget the exact details.
The guy at the Verizon store said 22 months or something like that, then the primary phone number on the family plan can get the deal. My 22 months is up in October, and I am the primary number. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, excuse me if this sounds like a really dumb question, but this is the first time I'll be renewing a subscription, and I'd like another 2 years on Verizon...will they automatically renew your subscription if you don't cancel, or do you have to sign up again? I don't want to all of a sudden be cut off. Thanks.

To your last questions, you don't get automatically renewed. If you did nothing and just kept going with no plan change or equipment changes, your account would go on as it always had but only with no contract after the 24th month. It goes as month to month wherein you have no contractural obligation to Verizon and would be able to cancel services if needed without penalty. You definately wouldn't be cut off. Actually, 'nothing' would happen. Business as usual as you've been going for the last 22. So, not a bad thing
As to the New Every Two question. Your pretty much on track. On your primary line, you would get $100 of of the already 2 year discounted price.
An example...If, for instance you are interested in the new LG VX5200. Right now the current 2 year contract price is 99.99 (full retail is a few hundred). Now that is before your $100. In essence, the phone may be free after the hundred is taken off. However, if the phone comes with a mail in rebate, that does get considered first. so...
2 year discount - $99.99
Mail in rebate - $50.00
-----------------------------
Left - $49.99
New Every Two Free Phone
The value is 'up to' $100 so you can get a free phone. Say if you go for a Treo (expensive). It is 399.99 after 2 year agreement. But, with the New Every Two, you will be able to use the full $100 and get it for $299.99.
Hope that explains it.....

Thanks, that was great!
One last thing...for my family who is not the primary line, say if they want a new phone, would they be able to get the LG 5200, for instance, for the $49.99 with rebate as long as we extended the 2 year contract? We wouldn't have to pay like $400 bucks or whatever the face value is, right?

If the share lines are eligible to upgrade, then you get the standard 2yr pricing which I do think is $49.99 for the LG5200 after rebate.
Looks like a heckuva phone for so little...not bad looking either
Enjoy.

I've been with Verizon almost 22 months now, and I'm soon eligible for the New Evey Two program. About this time last year, we switched to a family plan, and therefore extended our contract for another two years (it ends November '06). When I go to upgrade my phone, will I be able to extend my contract, so that I get the applicable discounts, or will my $100 new-every-two discount be applied to the full retail price of the phone ?

Yep. You will be able to upgrade.
The plan contract extension doesn't affect your NE2 and upgrading. The contract you did previously will essnetially be voided and replaced with the contract you create for the equipment.
Verizon definately does not want to take away your opportunity to upgrade when it's 22 months after the previous phone discount.

JSS -
I upgraded my phone last November 04 (because of the NE2). I lost my cell phone in May and assumed I would have to wait until the Fall of 06 to upgrade - two years. I stopped into my local Radio Shack and the guy checked my account and said I am eligible this Fall (05). How is that possible? Is he wrong or did I misunderstand something?

He is not right. I'm not sure with the system that he has, if he is reading it right, If he were to process the upgrade, it will likely not go through when he runs the 'app' (he has to do a set up part that creates the actual contracted upgrade) and dthis is when it will bump into the correct info. Since I can't look over his shoulder to see how he got the info, I wouldn;t want to guess but otherwise, yep, not correct info.
Sorry...and sorry to here about your phone.

Yeah, I started to think the same thing too. But I checked out my account on the Verizon webpage and the RS guy seems to be right. But I can't figure out how.
Before today 9/29 (the date the RS guy told me I was eligible) when I went into the "Upgrade Phone" part, each phone was listed at its retail price. But today when I did the same thing, suddenly the phones are listed at the 2-year activation prices.
And I know I didn't do anything different because I tried the same thing for my husband (who is on a separate account). The phones are still listed at retail price and I know he wouldn't be eligible because he just bought a phone (and signed up for the first time) last year.
I just can't figure out how I am eligible. When I resigned my contract last fall, if I signed up for only a 1-year plan, would I then be eligible for an upgrade within a year? Or is always 2 years regardless? I can't remember which I did.
Thanks!

I'm thinking that you may have signed a 1 year agreement. If so:
Good news and bad news:
Good news: You would be eligble for an upgrade now. To be eligible for another phone discount, you just need to satisfy the length of contract you last signed for an equipment upgrade. If that was one year, then once that year is up, you golden
Bad New (but not horrible):
You can't get the NE2 extra $100. You have to wait 2 year between upgrade. The short of it being..You fulfill a 2 year time commitment to sign another 2 year contract. Since it would have been only 1 year since the last one, you wouldn't yet qualify.
...the 'not horrible' part..If it was 1 year and since your phone became a stray (and thereby ending up at the phonepound and picked up the phonecatcher...hehe...ok, that was dumb)..so, since it's gone, you have a way to get a new phone at a reasonable price. So, you seem to have decent option.
Good luck again....................and, really, ignore that 'phonepound' thing. It's 5am and I'm awake already and really punchy.
