I have a Samsung phone through Cingular. I accidently dropped it in the bathtub for about 15 seconds. Of course, the phone doesn't work (it will light up, but then reset) and I have no extra insurance on the phone.
I read some things online, and to my surpirse the sticker on the back has NOT turned red/pink - it is still gray. I called Cingular, and they are overnighting me a refurb phone..but if they detect this one has had water damage, they will charge me $150. The screen was kind of foggy, so I tried the oven trick (150F for a couple of hours) - this fixed that problem (but it still doesn't work).
So my question is, assuming everything on the outside looks fine (no red/pink indicator, no water under LCD screen, SIM card & battery work fine, no scratches) is there anyway they can find out the damage was caused by water? Are there any indicators inside the phone that will let them know?
BTW, just to let people know...I never really liked Cingular's customer support, but their exhange support is the BEST. You can do it online, or talk to a live person (no waiting, it was even open on Labor Day). Everything is free, expect I chose the $7 overnight option (they e-mailed me a tracking number today for UPS, and a tracking # for when I return my phone).
Ohh, and also, can I save the pictures from my phone - or are they lost?
Thanks for your help in advance!

well, i know water damage isn't covered under the warranty.
the guy on the phone was telling me that the manufacturer does an overall look at the cell phone (im guessing inside to)...so basically my question is, even though on the OUTSIDE it looks fine (no red/pink indicator), is there anyway they can tell on the INSIDE its been in water?
if i have to pay $150 for this phone i would probably just buy a different model on ebay for the same price.

yeah
the funny thing is, i was wanting to get a new phone anyways. i don't like the voice quality on this e317 (i should have listened to the reviews).
actually, i just put the battery in, and the thing works! well..partially. it will turn on, and i can dial out, but it will randomly restart, and when i try to plug the cord in to charge the battery, it will shut down...so its still bad.
i have to find my data cable so i can save all my pictures, i don't wanna spend 10c x 50 pictures to e-mail them to me...i can't believe i actually got the thing to turn on and now i can't find the data cable!! my luck
ohh, and ps - since im keeping the battery and sim card, and they were in the water (but still work fine), should i do anything so they don't rust or damage (they look fine)?
thanks again!

My Motorola had much the same problem.
The little disc is now a deep dark red.
Will the manufacturer swap out for $150?
This option wasn't presented when I called and mentioned my problem...
Tks

all phones have a 1 yr warranty... the OP wasbasically wondering how close they look...that little disc in your phone is a moisture indicator...it was obviously wet... if you were to attempt a warranty exchange you would be assessed 150 bux fee as your phone problems were most certainly caused by water...
all in all... I would investigate a replacement on ebay ... or call your provider ask about upgrade options

I got the samsung p777 phone just last April. But my cousin was playing with and she kind of spill a little water on it. I was wondering if my phone able to get it replace or not since I bought the warranty thing from Cingular?
