Thu Sep 01, 2005 8:13 am Subject: V3 Razr - Ringtone ID plays when text message received! Why?
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
Hi, hope someone can help. Recently got my V3 and have set up ringtones for certain people in my phonebook. Trouble is, whenever I receive a text message from these people the entire ringtone plays, not the SMS sound! Pretty annoying when an mp3 tune plays for 20 seconds for just a text message!!
I used to have a Motorola V600 and this didnt happen. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem?
Thanks

I am not familiar with the Razr but have you tried something like this? Menu>Settings>Audio>Loud Detail?

I know what you mean. I have the same issue. You set up a person's "Ringer ID" in the phonebook, and when you get a text from that person, you get the whole song, not the text message alert you setup in menu->settings->ring styles

Yea, its a slight trade off. Say a samsung or LG has groups that will play specified messages for specified callers or texters. Moto will play one tone for that person in general. I don't know why its not more specific but thats how moto layed it down.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Do you think it is something Motorola will address in a software update (not that I am that keen on flashing my phone!) - seems strange that they ok'd this when V600 doesn't have this issue and the interface is virtually identical, as I remember..

Go to tools/audio/detail/text msgs/select and you can pick the ringtone you want to play for your text messages. You can also assign tones for other functions for your phone at this point.

Right, but if you setup a "Ring ID" for someone in your phonebook, that ring overrides the "tools/audio/detail/text msgs/select" setting. Thus every call and text message from that person uses their ring ID. The only way to play a shorter ring tone for a text message is to select no ring ID in the phone book and just have one call ring and one text ring for everyone. Thats what i've come up with so far.

I have never had that problem. Whenever I select an alert specific ringtone, it never affected a ring ID on my phone. Mine is set for specific ring Id,s and alerts. Maybe it's just my phone. Who knows.
