Okay, been reading for hours tonight and I'm still not 100% sure what I need to do... I have a v551 that has had battery life issues since day one. I've read that newer firmware may help with that and also may help my signal strength problems. The question is - what flash should I use and what flex (if any) do I need? I don't care about new features, unlocking my phone from Cingular, or anything else. I just want better battery life and maybe better signal strength. icon_smile.gif

I'm still quite the newbie here, but I do have my phone working with MPT and MultiFlashFlex detects it as a V551. So I think I'm good to go once I know what I need to put on it (and then just have to find those files).

Current data (in case it's relevant)
--
Flex version: GSPAN2CIN01NA059
s/w version: R47_G_08.17.0FR
DSP s/w version: 62212100

Thanks!

I just activated my V551 this morning & am looking for improved signal strength & battery life also.

I'd also like to know if the newer firmware would assist my case also.

flex: GSPSAN2M0DCIN03NA0D3
S/W: R472_G_08.18.16R_0A
DSP: 622D2400

This newbie thanks you for any assistance.

Try to use your fone for couple of weeks first then if you realy need to sovle the problem that you might have then comeback here and ask again and i'll be glad to help.
Mean while go tothe Tutorial section and read up on how to flash and flex and gather the stuff you need ( software like PST..) to do the job.

Thanks, old fool. I'm now running:

Flex: GSPSAN2CIN03NA07B
S/W: R472_G_08.18.40R
DSP: 62313100

(Didn't update to your unbranded flex 'cause I have no idea how to get it working with Cingular again icon_smile.gif

I'll let you know how the updated software affects my battery life and signal strength. icon_smile.gif

The flex combine will make a different and i'm sure the CRS in here can help you set it up with Cingular

Well, I just realized that with the new flash and the old flex, my phonebook is corrupt (initially, all of the entries were garbage - then, I started deleting some and now I can't get in to the phonebook at all). So, I guess I'm gonna have to update my flex regardless. But since the phone still works for calls and SMS, I don't really want to re-flex it with an unbranded flex until I know the exact steps for making it work with my cingular account again. icon_smile.gif
