I've searched and read just about every post I could find on your site and tried many of the suggestions but I'm apparently NOT getting it. I think maybe I don't understand bluetooth or maybe I've tried too many different things to get the desired result and have confused myself into oblivion.
I have Belkin bluetooth dongle with their software installed. I am able to find the phone and bond with it every time. The MPT, however, is a real hit-or-miss prospect. I've been able to initialize it only twice, once just now when I deleted all the modems via device manager, then went through the F6 setup option, manually choosing the v551 "modem" (the other time I don't know what I did, I'd given up and done something else, then when I looked, it was up and running...) When it finally initializes and I can access all the options of MPT, I can get the phone book, edit it and re-sync to the phone. I can get through editing mp3 files via the multimedia studio and save them, but transfer doesn't work at all. Same with photos. It says it's doing it, but nothing happens on the phone and no error messages show up on the PC. I have been able to send the completed files via the Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard, they show up on the phone and are able to be set as ringtones.
So, my questions:
1. Do I have to "re-bond" the phone every time - i.e. do I have to go through the "add a bluetooth device" every time after the phone has been away from the computer?
2. Do I have to bond the phone to the computer before I start MPT?
3. Do I have to go through the F6 setup for MPT every time?
4. How do I troubleshoot the failure to "copy to mobile phone" or "transfer to mobile phone" issues?
One more, slightly related question - can mpt work on two different phone models? My daughter has a v180 and I've ordered the usb cable for it - will I be able to transfer files to that phone via mpt or will the bluetooth file transfer be the route to go for that phone?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
P.S. While I was composing this post, the phone disappeared from the MPT and I got the message to "check that your Bluetooth device is connected and that your bluetooth software is activated" - Retry doesn't re-establish the connection. Chcking in my bluetooth devices, the phone is listed as "connected". When I click on "cancel" the phone reappears on mpt. This is very confusing!

First, be sure you have upgraded to the latest version of MPT (3.25 something).
Second, double check your BT driver cfg on your PC. See post http://forums.mobiledia.com/topic21707.html
My suggested answers to your specific questions:
1. No, not if it is done properly. You just have to connect, not go through add.
2. No.
3. No.
4. Don't know of an easy. However if you do the upgrades and verify your BT driver settings, that may solve your problem.
As far as your last question, yes. Just use the MPT Profiles capability to create a different profile for each phone. Then when you start MPT, tell it which profile to use.
Good luck.

Sorry, but this won't be a quick reply...
MPT software is up to date – downloaded from internet, ran live update. I went to the topic you linked to and performed steps up to disable bluetooth enumerator. At number 3, there is no generic bluetooth radio but Belkin bluetooth device. Updated driver anyway - get options for Belkin BT adaptor or BT device, chose device, finishes then system properties box opens - no instructions to do with that, so I close it. It opens again and I close it. Open MPT, goes right to correct skin, initializing till cows come home (and beyond). F6 - change modem (this advice comes from several other posts on this topic) opens device config wizard - choices are Motorola phone or other device. Select device from list, motorola GSM, v551 gets to config completed - connection to: Motorola Phone, com port: TAPI modem. Back to general setup, in communication tab, send is active, receive is active, keep finished transmissions. v551 skin indicates initializing, but no joy.
This morning when I came back to computer, MPT was on with all options available (they are grayed out when not connected), but still unable to transfer, then got the error message about unconnected, retry? but no connection.
I've also tried going through the bluetooth setup wizard provided by Belkin. That finds my phone, double clicking on it opens up window giving me choice of services (dial-up networking gateway, voice gateway, OBEX Object Push, OBEX File Transfer). Per post bcrpforums.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=3973, I double-click on dialup networking, but it doesn’t ask for user information – instead get error message “dial-up networking connection failed. Operation could not be completed. Error 0x810000015. Meanwhile, the system properties box keeps popping up at random intervals with no indication what I’m supposed to do with it.
My status right now in device manager is: Bluetooth devices – Belkin BT device (driver widcomm 1.4.2.8), modems – Motorola phone. On control panel phone and modem, there is Motorola phone, com 1.
Sometime during all these manipulations, the Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator disappeared from Bluetooth devices.
I’ve tried so many things from various posts so far that I’m terribly confused (add Bluetooth device, Bluetooth setup wizard, MPT F6 functions, restarting computer and phone – sometimes MPT works, most of the time it doesn’t). I know I’m just flailing around trying to get something to work. I only know that once my phone is removed from range, when I come back there is not an automatic connection and I have to start all over again.
I wouldn’t even care about the transfer functions in MPT if only MPT would open enough to use the multimedia studio (which it won't because it is perpetually initializing) – I’m able to transfer files to the phone via BT file transfer. I’m willing to remove all software and reinstall and start over, but which of these steps must I do – am I undoing something necessary while muddling around? Does the phone have to be listed as a modem rather than a phone?
Please help!

Looks like you have the correct driver. I'm using a moto bt dongle, but the driver shows the same widcom version as you mentioned. Try searching "belkin" at the forum of BVRP (the company that developed MPT) for any specific known issues regarding Belkin. http://www.bvrpforums.com/phpbb2/search.php?mode=results
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Well, I uninstalled both Belkin BT software and MPT, then reinstalled and restarted. Then I:
1. hooked up the BT dongle
2. disabled MS BT enumerator
3. searched for new driver for BT device and installed manually
4. went to my BT places and was able to configure BT service selection (first time this worked)
5. went to my BT places, searched for devices in range, paired, then double clicked on the Motorola phone.
6. when dial-up networking showed up, I double clicked and the user name/password box opened (first time this showed up for me, as well) – I cancelled and closed the dialog box
7. went to control panel to phone & modems and found BT device on Com 7, Motorola phone on Com1 and 3 standard modems over BT, all listed as “not present” – deleted these 3
8. started MPT and went to live update
9. restarted MPT, cancelled out of setup – got generic phone skin on desktop – opened setup to F6 – got choices of Motorola phone or BT modem – chose BT modem – Motorola GSM V551
IT WORKS! It works even after we had a transformer blow on our block with total loss of power in the house for 4 hours. I just put the phone on the desk, opened MPT and it initialized. WOW! I don’t know which of the posts I got the most good out of – actually think I melded a couple of attempts, but IT WORKS!
Thanks for your help!
P.S. Every time I've tried to click on a link for a bvrpforums.com post, such as yours below, I get the news page with no apparent links to the post. I use Firefox - but get the same result with IE.

Fusion of forum posts to solve a problem is probably not unusual. I still think the common thread is the weirdness of how BT drivers are handled by WinXp during the install. Reconfiguring the drivers seems to be the magic. But at least there is now a new solution post for others that will follow
Our of curiosity, what kind of network speed do you get when connecting through your cell?

Don't really know. I don't use my phone for internet access.
So far everything is still working fine, except for the transfer function from mpt but the BT file transfer workaround works fine. Again, thanks for the help.
