Hallo to everyone
please can be someone so kind and can tell me which cable I have to use for flashing my E720. I would like to prefer a seriell cabel. I have and old Samsung PCB093LBE (seriell). Can I use it on a E720?
The official Samsung site says that this is only for E710 and other models - nothing about E720.
Thank you

Bad DEAL!
The PKT110 is an Original Samsung cable but it's USB! I can't get it to flash!!!
I got PIMS to work but when I try to make a backup of my firmware the trouble begins.... Being that the cable is USB, when Optiflash, which only sees the com port when the phone is turned on, asks me to press the on/off button the phone turns off and the com port vanishes causing optiflash to stop it function as well!
Question:
How to keep the com port alive while flashing!!?

I think what OptiFlash is asking is to press the on/off button to turn on the phone from off instead of turning it off from on. The thing is when you turn on the phone, it will look for request from the data port and start it's bootloader. In other words, when it asks to press on/off button, turn off and then turn on the unit and it should start loading the flash from your phone.
By the way, make sure you have the correct version of OptiFlash for E720. Run Options - Settings and choose correct COM port for the data cable and specify the correct hardware platform which should be E720 (USB) in your case.

sorry, but not correct.... Optiflash won't start anything as long as there is no phone on the selected com port. So I tried just to see what would happen, leaving the phone on then starting the backup. Optiflash did it's check, found the bootloader then I get the message "press the on/off button". So as I figured would happen, when I press the button the phone turns off and the com port deactivates! When the com disapears Optiflash gives the error!
I read somewhere there may be other usb drivers out there. The question I have now is will these drivers keep the port active while the phone is off?
hmmm..... I really thought I was ordering a serial cable!

Try the following procedure and see if it works:
1. Assuming you have OptiFlash with correct profile for E720.
2. Remove the battery from the phone.
3. Run OptiFlash.
4. Connect cable to phone if it is not connected yet.
5. Put battery back to phone. It should then start bootloader. Nothing should be displayed on the phone's screen.
6. Click read on OptiFlash window.
7. When it asks to press the on/off button of the phone, press it for around 2 seconds.
8. If everything OK, it will start to read the flash, it normally takes around 30 minutes to complete the read process.
Good luck!

Dude!
thnx for posting the instruction on how to flash, but I guess you don't know who I am! ...
I'v been modding and flashing with optiflash since the v200 came out!
My problem is this Dag gan "USB" cable and the com it rides on when the phone is turned on!
When the phone is turned off the com port deactivates and optiflash gives me an error!
I understand that it's because the com port , com14, deactivates leaving optiflash nowhere to flash to or backup from....
How do I set the com to remain active even if nothing is connected to it?

Please excuse my ignorance of who you are. You are probably right that you may know flashing better than me.
Unlike other usb data cable which has an usb-to-serial bridge device, E720 use direct USB approach. Check following link for E720 pinout:
http://pinouts.ru/data/samsung_e810_pinout.shtml
Once the phone is turned off, your PC will consider the cable being unplugged. The question is why your phone is turned off? Did you see the same thing for V200 that the phone was turned off first? Wonder how it can be flashed or backup if it is turned off? Never mind, I have very limited knowledge on flashing.
Anyway, it could be that usb data cable is not suitable for flashing.
Similar to D500, You may need a flashing cable. However, please note that D500 flashing cable is not suitable for E720 due to different pinout between them. You may be able to make a serial cable following the pinout information from the above link. Or search the internet for flashing cable for E720.
Hope other member who has flashed E720 can give you more advise.
Edited with more information: I found from another forum that the serial cable for E810 should work for E720. I also found the schematic of the serial cable from the following link:
http://www.one-stop-factory.com/big.jsp?img=1807scheme.gif
Just hope that you don't get confused by the pin # as one read from left to right and the other from right to left.

this is the first time I used a usb cable for well..."flashing"! And now I know just like I always told myself and others! Buy a serial cable if you want to flash! lol
I see that the e810 data cable also has the 9V in like many of the newer cables! What's that all about!!?
I read somewhere that when flashing the e720 with this cable you don't need the battery on the phone at all during the flash process....? 9V in is used instead?
Hmm... I'm gonna order a nother cable and this time I'll make sure it's got the battery connection!
Cheers for the info Mate

Well I guess I don't know anything about flashing anymore!
I got the serial cable and now the problem I have is that optiflash doesn't recognize when I press the on/off button...........?
I search around and several people are having the same problem. One guy " RemusUK in Howard Forums" wrote a very nice tutorial which he used to flash his e720 but still I had no luck flashing my phone.....
argh!!!
THen I read in gsm forum about how you can flash using the usb cable by pressing the * + on/off . This seems to put the phone in some kind of service status which shows up as "WMC USBL App". Nice, but uhh.... I can't find any drivers for this so assigning an usb com port is impossible at the moment.
*sigh*
If you can solve this puzzle I and many other e720 owners will worship you till the day we die!
