Phone Model: VX 6100?
Service Provider: Verizon |

Hi everyone,
I have a VX6100 which is only about a month old. Physically, it is in great condition. However, the last couple weeks, the voice receiver has stopped working. At first it was only occasionally (people would call me and can't hear me, or i would call people and they couldn't hear me), but now it happens every time. The voice recorder won't even pick up my voice. I've had to switch back to an old phone.
I brought it to the store, and lo and behold--"sorry, this phone has been water damaged!" The little sensor on the battery has turned pink, but I know my phone did not get wet. I keep it in a thick pouch and it's only a few weeks old. The metal connectors are not corroded and there are no other physical signs of damage.
Anyway, I did not purchase additional insurance because I'm typically good with my phones, so now Verizon claims they can't do anything. They were mentioning that humidity could cause the problem? (The store employees make me so upset, I don't understand why their customer service has declined so rapidly.) With the way their service is, I'm not even sure that the new phone I received didn't have 'water damage'.
Does anyone have any advice? I searched the forum and my phone doesn't say "Car Kit" or anything like that. I'm willing to try and fix it or do anything but donate more money to VZW for another poor quality phone.
Thank you so much!
Tara

Thanks for your response, but is there no way to fix this? It's such a shame, because the phone is so new. I'm willing to buy new parts or take it apart, I just don't know if it's worth it...
Do I have any recourse with Verizon? Is there anything I can do?

In the verizon store there is usually a tech service center. Go to them and say what is wrong with the phone (even though they already know) mentioning you ARE WILLING TO PAY for new parts may change their minds. If they still say no contacting LG may be the next step.

LG will usually have a one year warrenty thru them. The only way youy can use it is to contact them directly. I've found the customer service there to be better than my providers (i had verizon 3 years ago and an lg vx3100 GO GREEN SCREEN!) My verizon phone broke down after a while and they fixed it for me within the one year warrenty. I hope this helps.

Try contacting LG directly... usually when you send a phone for repair they don't want the battery, if you don't mention the battery as a problem. If its something else internal, this will get you beyond Verizon's "your phone got wet' response, and at least get your phone looked at.

TARA:
The Car-Kit error is common with LG phones. It only takes a couple of things to cause this. EIther exposure to humidity/water or contact issues on the power cordconnector . I checked many things. (See CAR-KIT for the VX-6000 on this same forum ) [Tons of info there]
1) Take the covers off with screwdrivers, and blow dry the phone with medium heat. (Don't dry the battery)
2) While open, wipe down all contacts. Look for water. You can also wipe areas that have debris with a Q-tip and alcohol, if you then dry those areas too.
3) Let the phone sit out overnight to dry, in a dry area. (Not a bathroom) 12-24 hours can save you some $$ perhaps.
4) Try all the Service code tricks and the Factory reset cited by BLAZE on the VX-6000 page.
5) Then look at the ~20 small pins in the power cord connector. You will need a magnifiier. Verify that all pins are straight and NOT touching each other. If they are touching, straighten then gently. If you see
debris, try to scrape it out with sewing pins/needles, etc. You may also wish to treat the contact with a small amount of pure alcohol.
6) the Vx-6000 forum talks about a way to cross- short 2 of the pins in the power cord connnector. ( i did not do this) It was stated that the 2 pins on the far right will toggle the CAR-KIT mode when shorted one time.
See that forum article for more details.
