I read the following in a Mobiledia review:
Quote: "Besides high-quality photography, the Nokia 6682 supports a wide range of productivity tools, such as always-on e-mail delivered over high-speed EDGE networks, office document viewers, and upgraded synchronization for PC users."
What is this "always-on e-mail"? It sounds as though it would make emailing photos much easier/faster and it should be a requirement for my future cell phone. (For when I send emails —usually photos in an email rather than just text).
Question: WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN THE CELL PHONE DESCRIPTORS? "Always-on Email"? I notice that some descriptors mention Email in various phraseologies but don't fully understand this distinction or its significance.

Afaik "always-on e-mail" does only works via IMAP-protocol, not via POP3.
You've gotta configure you phone for it and the phone will permanently check for new mail.
You need a very good data-plan for this...
And yes, EDGE is the faster version of GPRS, but not many provider do support it.

I do not intend to check my email when I am out of the house. I only would send photos that I take to friends at their email address or possibly to my own email address. My Apple Mail program says that it is a POP type. I do not know the types that my friends have. Would this be a problem? How difficult is it to set up email on a cell phone? -Kismet

No, a POP3 account won't be a problem. The phone can handle POP3 and IMAP accounts.
Setting up an e-mail account isn't that difficult.
The manual explains what you've to put where in the settings.

And when I complete the settings in my phone, then will I be able to send emails with photos to friends even if I don't know what type of email program or system they have — IMAP or POP?

The protocol they are using isn't important.
And yes, you should be able to send them photos.

If you go to the < a href="http://www.nokiausa.com/support/settings/1,1921,,00.html">6682 product page</a> at the nokia website, you can have the configuration settings sent to your phone automatically. The problem, though, is that if you've already manually configured a mail acount, you will have two entries, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the extra entry.

I purchased a Nokia 6256i in December '05 and have been sending emails with no problems. All has turned out quite well for me. -Kismet
