Hi there.
I would like to unlock a Cingular SGH-X497 (one of the newer phones, from what I can tell), but I haven't been able to find any leads online. The usual suspects, like UnlockItNow.com, don't list it among supported models, and a search of this forum (among other places) proved fruitless. Is there currently a way to unlock this phone, and if so, how would I go about it? Is there a special cable I need to purchase, or someone I need to bribe with homemade "magic" brownies?
I would appreciate any replies.
Regards,
Allan

Yes, The Only Way To Unlock this phone Is To Buy A Samsung PCB093LBE Cable and get Cerberos!
That is the only way, you can find one from eBay

Are you sure that the X497 uses the PCB093LBE cable? These days, I'm not sure what cables the newer phones uses, because most of the new ones don't seem to use the Agere series data cable (the data cable number just mentioned).
Believe it or not, Cingular might be able to help you unlock your phone. Call them and ask about unlocking. If your account is in good standing, etc. they'll be able to help you.

After some exhausting searching, I found the Cerberos software. Thanks for the lead. Before I invest in a cable, though, I would ideally like to know that it works, for sure. Has anyone tested it with the SGH-X497 in particular? There are eBay services that claim to be able to do this, for $10-12, but I think I'd prefer to just get the cable and unlock others' phones for a pre-paid phone mailer and a "thank you," from then on in.

Allen, any luck unlocking this phone? I just got one too and need to unlock it for use with my old at&t wireless SIM. Let me know if you were successful. Thanks.

Any tips on this one? Just replaced a X427 with this one. The X427 was too easy. I'm looking to do the same with the X497. I've got Cerberos and a cable is on the way.

Where did you get your cable? It is different than all of the other Samsung cables, and I haven't seen a knock-off on ebay yet, or anywhere else for that matter. I just sent mine out for an $8.99 unlock. I need it done soon, and can't wait for a cable. But, I would like one for data transfers. The guy that is unlocking mine said it is quite different for the x497. He used his clip machine, and has to enter some codes, so its a combination of things.

Oh well, the Samsung cable I just received doesn't work on a 497. It does work with a 427.
So, who knows how to unlock a X497? This is becoming a quest for me now. I feel determined. Then I need to remove the silly Cingular logos.

I got a problem with this phone, I live close to the border with mexico, and here the signal from mexico its very strong and my phone goes to roaming sometimes I go close to the border. The phone has the "network selection" option disabled. Do you know if unlocking the phone will let me chose the network I want to be on?
