Hi,
I just purchased two Samsung v205s for myself and my dad and I've been playing with the new EasyGPRS program v2.1.6 and my IRDA connection on my laptop. I got it to work perfectly fine, but I still have questions.

I was wondering if there is ANY method of transfering the pictures on the phone to my PC without switching to the v200 firmware. It seems impossible to do it with an IRDA connection unless somebody can tell me otherwise (I read somewhere on this forum that there maybe an unlock code for the v205 so that I can transfer pictures from the phone to the computer via EasyGPRS)?

Also from my understanding, I've read that using the SERIAL data cable, I can without a doubt transfer pictures from the v205 to the computer. Am I understanding this correctly? Any help would be GREATLy appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For my understanding, only V200 can upload the photos to the PC.

Moreover, only serial cable can perform the upgrade firmware process while IR cannot.

hope it is helpful icon_redface.gif

You should upgrade your V205 to V200. I'm using F3 firmware right now and haven't seen any problems with it icon_smile.gif As for transferring pictures, I couldn't do it with V205 but with V200 it works fine. I upgraded my firmware using the serial data cable included with the phone. no problems so far, just wished i could delete the pre-installed ringtones and wallpapers. upgrade your phon! icon_wink.gif

I didn't get a serial cable in my phone (T-Mobile USA) so I'll have to purchase one.

Could you list the advantages and disadvantages between the V200 F3/G1 firmware and my OEM V205 firmware? I remember there were actually disadvantages if I switched to the V200 firmwares. Tell me if I'm wrong.

hm...i don't see any disadvantage in upgrading to V200. The T-Mobile firmware for the V205 is customized for T-Mobile users and also they limit the functionalities of the phone. For example you can't upload pictures from the V205 to PC. This is most probably because they want you to use their messaging system. pretty smart eh? icon_rolleyes.gif i don't know why they disabled the Zoom functions. With the V200 you can customize your background so that it won't show any text. The T-Mobile logo is also removed. The screen looks better (even though the G1 firmware makes the screen very dark). I know i'm missing a couple of things here. You located in Los Angeles, nautiazn85?

Yeah actually I'm relocating to SD soon... UCSD icon_wink.gif.

Wanted to upgrade my phone to a V200 before I moved. Are there any problems with switching to V200 firmware on the T-Mobile network? I heard the number of characters are limited in V200 for either SMS/MMS messages. Is this true?

hehe i'm at UCI. Actually T-Mobile is using the Cingular network in this area. And well i'm using Cingular so basically it's on the same network. The V205 firmware eliminates the Roaming sign and changes the name "Cingular" to "T-Mobile". so if you use the V200 firmware you'll actually be seeing the roaming sign and also "Cingular". Don't worry you're not roaming though. icon_wink.gif i've tried typing an SMS and well it doesn't seem to be limited.

Could you try to send an SMS message to another phone with more than 70 characters? I've read from this forum that messages over 70 character on older v200 firmwares will be sent in multiple messages (concatenated). I just want to make sure that problem doesn't exist for me becuase I'll be sending SMS, and only have 100 a month.

Another thing, will ANY brand (generic) serial cable for the V205 be able to flash the firmware (eforicty is selling it for less than $10, but its generic)? Or does it have to be an OEM w/ the switch?
