I purchased an OEM CA-42 cable and I'm trying to get the phone to connect to PC Suite. I have a set of drivers that seem to work to connect the cable and phone to the laptop. The driver - Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port - is "working properly" under Windows XP Device Manager and has been configured as Com4. When I attach the phone to the cable, I get a message - "Data Enhancement Connected" - which seems to indicate the phone is ready to go.
I have repeatedly installed PC Suite and cannot seem to get the phone to communicate with the software.
Am I missing a piece here? I would have expected the phone to be found by PC Suite. I also changed the connection properties to specific go after that com port without any success. It also seems like I need a driver for the software to recognize the phone.
Help ...
Thanks in advance for any input provided.

I removed all of the software/drivers and started from scratch.
1. Installed the OEM-Driver - I am using the Prolific 2.0.0.18 driver dated 07/16/2003. Again, this driver seems okay becuase the laptop will create the USB-serial controller and the USB-to-Serial Comm Port.
2. Installed Nokia's CA-42 driver - I am using the US version found here. According to the web site, it is version 150,6.
3. Installed PC Suite - I am using the version found here. It is version 6.6
4. Connected the cable - the hardware was found and created.
5. Connected the phone - got the "Data Enhancement" message on the phone.
I didn't connect the phone or the cable until after all of the software was installed.
The connection manager spins without finding the phone. I went in PC Suite Connection Manager and selected the Serial port option and configured the port specifically to the newly created Com port and it still can't find the phone.
In the "Quick Guide for Installing Nokia Connectivity Cable Drivers" PDF file found here, Section 3.3 - Verifying the Installation (pg. 5) states that the following should be created and seen in Device Manager - "For a CA-42 cable: check that Nokia CA-42 USB Phone Parent is present under Wireless Communication Devices. Check also that Nokia CA-42 USB (COMxx) is present under Ports."
My Device Manager does not show the "Nokia CA-42 USB Phone Parent" being created.
--> Should I be seeing the Phone Parent configuration in Device Manager.
The serial port created is the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port, not the "Nokia CA-42".
--> This is what I expect to be in Device Manager. Is it correct?
Thanks again for any help. This shouldn't be this hard ...

OK, the connection manager should show you this options
Bluetooth
Infrared
Serial cable (DKU-5, CA-42)
USB (DKU-2, CA-53)
You should be able mark the "Serial cable" and select the "Configure" (or what it says) button on the right side.
Their you can select the Com-port.
Which one exactly you have to choose... no ideea, try them.

Hah All,
I have the same problem.
I have a Windows XP and connected CA-42 cable. In PC Suite the "Get Connected" wizard keeps spinning for connection.
But does not get connecgted..
I tried my luck with DKU-5. Its much worse . my nokia does not show the "Data Enhancements" symbol.
Pls do let me know if anyone has found a way out to fix this.

I have been reading this thread with great interest. I am having exactly the same difficulties. In my case, I seem to be lacking a USB Serial Controller driver. This is what allows a serial port to work through a usb port. This is similar to how the USB printer gets mapped to LPT1. My eMachine is equipped with card readers and multiple usb ports. I don't seem to be able to find any location from my windows install for this type of driver. eMachines says it's nokia's problem, nokia says it's eMachines problem. It makes me wonder why they just don't use a $&@# firewire on the phones. It would be so much simpler.
Does anyone know how I can get this serial-port-through-usb thingamajig working?

One other note: It's a good thing I didn't buy the overpriced nokia cable. It obviously would not have worked any better. Other note... on nokia forums... their only suggestion is you completely reinstall windows and then install their drivers FIRST before any proprietary drivers. Sheeesh! THough, I do wonder if I removed and uninstalled ALL of my usb drivers, then tried to connecte the cable, would XP find the right drivers and install them first?
