You probably can't use the Windows file transfer to send file from your Laptop to E700. You have to use an application software called PC Studio PIMS from Samsung which you can download from the following link:
http://www.samsung.com/search/search.asp?qt=E700&la=en&col=wu+ws+downl oad&tabpage=1&radio=1&select=0&x=6&y=8#
You have to setup PIMS to use IrDA. Press F1 in PIMS for more details.

thanks..i downloaded that software and now it is working. just one problem. i can't transfer images which are greater than 680X480 resolution. it says the program support images below 640X480. can i transfer normal images downloaded from any site by changing their resolution (but not affecting their quality?)

Nice to hear that it is working. If you are referring to transferring pictures from PC to phone, the maximum size is 128x128 pixels. You can use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to resize larger pictures to within the maximum that is allowed. As for the quality, it will not be same as the larger one. Anyway, what can you expected from the phone's limited LCD size which is 128x160 pixels only.

Hi,
I don't know what's the problem now. i used the same application and it detected my phone. i was able to transfer all my phonebook records, sms messages, call details everything.
but now when i m connecting my phone to the laptop using infrared , the application doesn't detect my phone.i tried setting diff. speed in the easy studio1.0 but still it is not detecting my phone. at the bottom , i get "offline" . earlier it showed sgh-e700 .
i even tried uninstalling the software and installed it again but no luck.
any suggestions!

Can your Laptop detect your phone? Does the IrDA icon show up in the bottom right notification area? Have you installed other program or update Windows before this problem happened? What speed have you tried? 115200 seems to be the best speed to use. Have you tried placing the phone at different distance from your Laptop? Sometimes placing it too close may not be good.

yes my laptop detects my phone each tme i place it near it's infrared port. i get the connection icon also.that windows transfer dialogue box also opens.
i have tried setting diff speeds in the software...i get an error message whch says that "the port cannot be opened and the program is in offline mode. After, try opening in online mode."
in the setting i have set IrDA as port and tried diff connection speeds.but nothing happens.
i don't know how last time the program detected my phone and transferred all my datas from phone to laptop.
i have installed some display drivers before this problem occurred. nothing else.

To check if the display driver has anything to do with the problem, use system restore to restore your PC to an earlier date before the display drivers were installed and after you installed PIMS.

Well i think i got the problem . I was first connecting my mobile to laptop and then opening the easy studio program. That's why though my laptop was detecting the phone , the program was not detecting it. i tried the other way. i first started the easy studio program and then connected my phone to my laptop. and it worked. so now no problem with that. each time i do so , i can connect my phone and load/unload sounds, datas etc..
also the problem with thhe image pixels got resoved. In windows2000 , u have "Imaging" in Accessories section. just open the picture in "Imaging" , right click on it , go to properties , then go to size. under this section , there is one field called units , which by default is set as inches. from the dropdown menu , select pixels and it will show u the width and height in pixels. then just manually edit the width and height to be less than 640 and 480 respectively. , say 635 and 475. I have tried it in many photos and iam able to upload it to phone.
Thanks for your help.
