Recently on my T720, I got it out to make a call and on the sub LCD it said "No Service" with a picture of a tower. I had never seen it before. So, I opened it and it said "Unregistered SIM" where it usually says "Cingular". I turned it off and then back on and it was normal. But, sometimes, the phone will go back to "Ubregistered SIM" but if I turn it off and back on, then it is normal. Why does it do that? What can I do to stop it?

Because you don't power cycle your phone often enough(turn it off for 60 seconds and back on)in a high signal area so the software can update properly and so the sim can get a fresh signal to the tower. It's like rebooting a computer:)

I think telling people to power down their phones is such a cop out answer. I have had a Sony Ericsson GSM phone for years that I never powered down and I never got "unregistered SIM". Same network provider. I got a new Motorola Razr V3 and at least once a week, that phone goes belly up with "unregistered SIM" and never comes back. I understand how the GSM network messaging is suppposed to work and that phone should be able to recover whenever there with whom it can successfully register, even if it is not the most powerful signal. If there is a period when there is no signal, it should not just stop communication forever. I should not have to power down my phone to fix a problem in the phone or the network and I seriously think that is what is happening here. Subscribers should not buy this answer. Just because we have had to swallow that answer from Microsoft, does not make it the correct answer.

Why so mean, BigRuss? Play nice now.
On a serious note, is that the only remedy to the problem? I've never have that problem until recently. It started in June on my V600 (Cingular's own) and now with my new unlocked RAZR V3i.
Any suggestion on how to solve this quirk is much appreciated.

your thoughts are your thoughts...
however it is the most common cause of errors in a cel phone...regardless of carrier....
... when fault finding with a customer that is usually the first step... power cycle... check registration and assess the findings..
if you find it too much trubble to turn your phone off for 30 seconds once a day ...well have fun is all I can say

Both our razr's did "unregistered sim" to us, mine yesterday, hers today, for the 1st time, after 8 months! Was that just a coincidence? Called Cingular repair (611) yesterday. Their solution was to take it to a Cingular Phone store, and they would replace the sim card (for free). Today I googled "unregistered Sim", found this forum, "re-booted" both phones, and problem solved!, at least for now. Thanks for the advice
