Hi every body this isn't a question, but it deserves to go up any way. Also i am not trying to be outwardly mean or anything like that. This is just a casual observation and ssome friendly advice. So many people have been posting on the forum looking for Unlock Codes for thier LG's. So this is exactly what you need to know.............LG PHONES CANNOT BE UNLOCKED VIA SUBSIDY CODE/PASSWORD. The only way to unlock an lg phone (and most other phones for that matter) is to have the locking software deleted off the phone. Also for future reference, avoid posting your IMEI number and the info off the inside of the phone. I'd like to think most people on this forum are honorable, but there are still a crooked few out there. Posting your IMEI number gives people the ability to make a claim on your phone, thru various insurances of thier service provider. If you make a claim on a phone that has been "claimed" you risk penaltys and charges for being in possesion of a "stolen" phone. I hope this help people out. I'm not saying people shouldn't post if they have a legit question, but people, lay off the "unlock code needed" posts. So there.

yes posting your IMEI is a silly thing to do, however the info about not being able to unlock LG's by a code is simply not true, the algorithm for it is just not as widely available as most phones.
I just unlocked an LG 9100 via a code, obtained from LG using my IMEI, and have unlocked many LG's the same way.
Ask your carrier for the unlock code, if they don't want to give it up, tell them you're visiting a country that they don't serve, with LG's they have to get the code from LG themselves so it can take a day or two, even better is faxing/emailing a receipt that shows you paid full price for a phone from an approved reseller, they will unlock it then, you may have to call a couple of times to get a good rep, i wasn't even a cingular customer and managed to get the 9100 unlocked, even though they start off saying that not only do you have to be a customer, but have been for at least 90 days, but providing a simple scanned receipt shoiwng full price did the trick

Unlocking an LG phone with a subsidy passwoord isn't a full fix tho. Yes it will allow you to use another carrier, but there are a lot of restrictions to it. Removing the software set by a particular service provider is a much more sensibe way to use your phone with other service carrier. Subsidy codes can be finicky, and disable certain features on your phone that can be used with the main carrier. Removing the locking software won't do that. For instance, an LG 1400 unlocked with a subsidy code doens't allow text or picture messaging, and won't let you change the settings. Lastly, if for any reason you do a factory reset, the unlock you did with the subsidy code will be removed, and your phone will reveret to being locked to that specific carrier. Unlocking and removing the locking software won't do that, cause you can't replace what isn't there any more. Do your self a favor and if you want to unlock your phone, pay the 15 bucks and get the guy on ebay to do it.

Sorry, but you are wrong! Most cell phones can be unlocked with codes. I do it all the time. Just don't believe everything you are told by the manufacturer.
You are correct as regards LG phones though. They want to stick you for expensive unlock programs and equipment. It is better to turn them over to a professional.
My answer to the problem is to NEVER accept an LG phone. There too many good phones out there. You don't need an LG!

Hey now, i like my LG. I'm not saying it's impossible, i;m just saying it;s more of a pain in the arse than it is worth. Besides what i said before is still true. If you perform a master reset on a phone unlocked by subsidy pass code, then the unlock becomes erased. If you are going to do any updates to your phone or you want to sell it after you get a new one, and you wanted to restore the factory default, you are S-O-L in terms of the unlock. Just get it done by someone, and life will be easier.

I found a phone last night and want to return it to its owner, I have my own phone and I am an honest person....
the person LOCKED this phone there is no way for me to call them, and tell them I found it!
so here it sits blinking away and I cant do a damn thing
,y message is: think twice before locking your phone there are a few honest people out there, I will drop it off at a verizon store to see what they can do
but in the mean time this person is combing the earth looking for it!

We don't mean that kind of locking pookats.......We were talking about SIM-nlocking a phone so it works with other service providers, i.e Unlocking a Cingular Motorola V220 and using it with T-mobile. To do that the phone would need to be unlocked.
