I've started doing something slightly differently with wallpaper instead of resizing pictures to fit "perfectly" full screen.
If your picture is in a "landscape" format (i.e. long edge at top/bottom), it will fill the screen to the edge left/right. Leaves gaps at top/bottom. You can then use MPT to "fill" the space at the top/bottom with a complimentary bright solid color, then transfer the augmented picture to the phone.
Why I like this is that you still have your picture as the wallpaper, but the phone info such as battery, signal, date, time, etc, really stands out in the "filled" area and doesn't get so lost or hard to see in a picture with lots of details/colors. You can even put "words" in the color filled area under the picture using MPT.
