Thanks VZWprincess. I tried loading a non-copy protected WMA file to the card and no dice - darn thing just says "no songs found". I'll try surfing around and see what I can come up with. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

I don't know about WMA, never tried it. however, MP3 works fine. when you insert the mini sd card into the phone the first time it should create four directories. they are: MY_FLIX, MY_MP3, MY_PIX, and my_sounds (just as typed...first 3 caps...last one lower case). If your phone didn't create them, perhaps you could try to do this manually...maybe it'll work.
From there, all i did was copy things into their respective folders. mp3->mp3 folder (these must stay in the root of that folder....no sub directories...if you do then you'll only see the songs in the root, and not the ones you tried to organize into folders...say by artist or album), sounds into sounds folder (have only tried midi files for this....and as previously stated you can't use them for ring tones, just to have and/or add to pix messages), pix into pix folder (again, i have only tried .jpg files, but every one has worked). as far as flix, you have to convert them to to .3gp (i used Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter, simple and worked well)...then just copy to flix folder.
I still don't know about creating my own ringtones... I suppose they have to be stored in the phones internal memory, thus meaning i would need to get a usb cable (or usb bluetooth connector) and software to hook it to my pc, and go through a whole 'nother bunch of crap.
anyways, hope this helps someone. good luck!

i still can't get sounds to work as ringtones. i did discover today though that you can take most wav files and simply change the extension from .wav to .mid and they will work (for pix messages and what not). a few of the ones i tried didn't work. i'd say i had about a 85-90% success rate.

Okay folks...
this is simple to do. I have had LG phones for quite some time now. And I have experienced this working on several different models. I have had success with all. I do this all the tiime, for all kinds of folks.
1. purchase a USB Data cable for your phone. Make/Model.
2. get the free program "Bitpim". Do a google search. Go to the site from there and download bitpim to your system and install it. You will have to go to the settings and set up your connection for your phone.
3. I use Adobe Audition but I guess any mp3 editor would do. You create your ringtone by dragging and dropping the mp3 you would like to use, edit it down to size. No longer than 30 seconds is normal. When you have done this, click on save. I save to the desktop bcuz it's easier to find. Right in front of you. Save as an mp3.
4. Test the ringtone.
5. connect your phone via the usb data cable. Open Bitpim. On first use... I do a "get phone data" using the tab in bitpim to get phone data. Once it is done gathering data from the phone. Go to the ringers tab. Grab your mp3 from the desktop and drop it in the ringers area. Bitpim will notify you on converting the mp3 to work on the phone. Convert with settings showing on screen. (As you become familiar with bitpim and creating files for the phone... then you can play around with the settings).
6. After bitpim is done converting the file. You can listen to how it will sound on your phone. If you are satisfied, click okay.
7. Click on "send data to phone" tab. Another screen will pop up and ask you if you want to add or replace certain files... Contacts, Wallpaper, Ringtones, etc... I suggest just do add. For now.
8. Bitpim will send the info when you press okay. When it's done... disconnect the data cable.
9. Go to the sounds settings on your phone look for the mp3 you just made. It will be named whatever you named it. Should play without any problems.
It's that simple. Enjoy

I have been trying to find the answer that I'm looking for to help me turn my mp3 files on my LG VX9800 into ringtones.I tried to put BitPim on my PC and go through it in that way but I keep getting an error on my PC "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone providor." I would like to be able to do it if it is possible just on my SD card and not have to deal with the USB cable.because I don't think my computer likes it for some reason.Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Flip open your V. Press the OK button. Hit 0 then it will say service code. Then hit 000000 and you will be able to modify multpile things on your phone such as mp3 or wma files. I saw the convo on someone not being able to get mp3s on because this setting was set to wma files only. Through this prosses you can even change your phone to have WMA files aswell as MP3s....how to do this is after you typed in the 6 0's (000000) go to the bottom (12) music settings and simple choose your perfered music player. Let me know if this helped anyone

I tried this, after reading it on another forum, and when I go to 11. Music settings, it says not available. Now what?
thanks.
