Hello People. I was poking around to see if anyone knew what format the ENV ringtones are, and saw issues you folks r having with making ringtones. actually very very easy. First and formost u need a memory card (i have 4 gb.) and then you need to format the card from within the phone by going to settings and tools scroll down to #8 memory, hit ok, scroll down to #3 Card memory, then in the lower right hand corner of the screen hit options and format card. You then need to put yourself with your cell phone number in you contacts (this will make sense later). I call myself "ME" in my contacts. Next u need a way to read the card on your computer and transfer files to the card.(either a card reader or usb card reader. You cant hook up a USB Cable to the phone.it will not read the phone in that fasion. You then need a program that can "edit an MP3" to 30 seconds.( that is what i use) I use a program called Ringtone Maker 3. (about $19.00 at bestbuy). I like this software because i can pick and choose the song i want in any area of the song and save it. (keep the file name short) You then copy that file to the "My sounds" directory on your memory card. Then remove the card form the computer and place back in the phone. Then go to "get it now, #1 Music & Tones, scroll down to #5 my sounds and view you sound you just added. Then hit send and then "add" in the bottom right. Choose #1 From Contacts, add yourself and then hit send. Your phone will send out the "Message" and then it will "Receive The message. Open it up and then choode options, scroll down to #5 "Save as ringtone" and hit ok, and BAM your done! You know have a custom made ringtone! For kicks do the same thing again and save as a sound but when the enter new name comes up add "RT" (ringtone) to the end of your file so you dont get confused with other sounds taht are not ringtones, so you can send to other phones. I am in the process of trying to avoid all this and trying to figure how to save as a ringtone right to the phone but have not as of yet. The ringtone maker pgm does offer uploading as a ringtone to a bunch of other phones but LG is not on the list, but it is mentioned in an update for the "chocolate" but the software cannot be updated to do that. yet and their tech support is on the weak side. Have fun all

The 9800 doesn't have the option "save as ringtone," it only has the option "save as sound." The enV has the option. thats why we are all trying to figure this out madgirl.

Hi there - my friend just got a VX9800 and tonight I purchased a miniSD card. I loaded about 10 songs on there and when I go to them on the VX9800 menu it says "no songs found". Yet, I take the same card - put it into the SD adapter and place that in my Treo 650 and the songs play fine? I used the standard MP3 format and non-copyrighted songs. Any suggestions on how I can get it to play on the VX9800? Thanks!

You need to have certain file folders set up on the card that differetiate the type of files that they are. i.e. MY_MP3, MY_PIX, MY_FLIX, and my_sounds. This will allow the phone to find the music files for playback. they cannot be used for ringtones at all. No conversion is necessary for mp3's to play on the phone, it just looks for the files int he respective folders. hope this helps ALL.
