I have been an AT&T (TDMA) customer for over five years. I currently have 650 minutes, free nights and weekend, unlimited mob to mob, free roaimng, and a free phone every year, all for 39.99/month. In addition, I subscribe to the $4 per month international plan which gives me excellent rates for calling overseas. I have tried my best to get the same deal if I switch to cingular GSM, but they tell me that for $39.99 per month the best I can get is 450 minutes, 5000 nights / weekend, etc, and NO phone every year. The roll over minutes does not help me because I use all minutes almost every month. I have a friend who is on AT&T GSM and he has 1000 minutes and everything else in my plan for the same price.
Has anyone had luck with negotiating with Cingular to, at the least, match what one had on AT&T??
Thanks.

If you are a california/nevada customer you can get a 39.99 natl plan, M2M, N&W, and 1000 daytime minutes. But the only way to get this plan is to get a flier in the mail and to call the special phone number listed on the flier. They dont give us reps any ability to give you this plan (and no, our supervisors dont have the ability either). I've heard of our Save team (the dept that deals with ppl who request to cancel their service) can offer you that plan, but it's pretty hard to get through to them.
If you dont live in california, and/or you have not received the flier, you are basically "Up Sh*t creek without a paddle"
I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just being honest.
Have a look through this forum, someone actually asked almost the exact same question, but theirs was regarding an equipment price match. Its basically the exact same situation. Only a few of our customers have a better ATT plan than is available from Cingular and only a small fraction of those customers will ever cancel their service because of this. So cingular dosent really care, they just see the numbers.

I am in NY, so essentially "out of luck" is the bottom line. I guess, time to move on to probably TMobile.

I'm sorry to hear that, But I would definately suggest calling customer care and asking to be transfered to the "Save Team" because you were gonna port your number out unless you can get a better plan. Be Curteous and calm and the rep wouldnt have any trouble bringing you through. I really dont think that they can do much, but its worth a shot

Save team offered the normal plan, 450 rollover minutes plus mob to mob and 5000 nights and weekend, or 1000 anytime minutes with NO nights and weekend and free mob to mob. Unfortunately, neither of them works as with my current plan, I use the 650 plan minutes, and have almost same number of nights and weekend minutes as well.

I am on att and found this out by calling att customer service directly at 866-293-4634:
curent plan I have
3 phones
39.99 +9.99+9.99
no data or text or any of the stuff just minutes
350 regular mins
200 bonus mins
unlim night/wknds
I called to get more mins without switching to cingular. they offered me:
3 phones
49.99+9.99+9.99
no data or text or any of the stuff just minutes
550 regular mins
unlim night/wknds
of course i said....you want me to pay 10 dollars more to have the same number of minutes and stay with att. i said can i keep my bonus minutes? She said well i can offer you 50 bonus mins. i said, how about all 200 mins. she dug through a bunch of screens and said oh, i can let you keep the 200 bonus mins.
so botom line is is the deal has to be in the saystem at teh time att was bought out. at teh tiem att offered the $49/550/200 bonus...so she can still use it.....or so she says anyway.
your right switching to cing sux pricewise.
I havn't actually made teh switch yet becasue I'm also in need of new phones.
This data was valid 10/1/05.
What I want to know is any joe can buy a sony s710a for full retail for 300 - rebates etc to get final price of 199. If I use my corporate discount of 50% off retail....we have to use "business pricing" which has a full price of 400-50% =199.....what a joke! seems real fishy to me!

thealexdexter, your problem is IDENTICAL to the one I've been having, except I have a 2-phone plan, not 3. The rest of the #'s are the same (39.99+9.99, I also have the bonus minutes).
The only difference is that I've been calling them for about 3 months, each time having them give me a different reason to why they can't keep the minutes or price that I have now. I've threatened to leave them, and still nothing....
So how were you able to do this?

What's happened is Cingular told all the former ATT reps that we are not allowed to provision ANY promotions onto your account now... And when you change your rate plan, the automated systems remove all promos that you have (this even happened before the merger), and considering that we cant re-add them, you can end up loosing minutes for upping your rate plan. We still have the ability to add promotions but we're just not allowed to, We can get in a lot of trouble for doing so. If you are lucky you will find a rep who is willing to 'bend the rules' a little bit

I had multiple problems with Cingular, and when I moved from California to Texas I would have lost my promo benefits unless I got a new Cingular phone+plan. I had an old at&t phone, and I understand they are not allowed to honor the old promos when you move if you were with at&t before. However, the customer service person said that since she could not find a signed contract on record, they would not charge the $175 for cancellation.
Woo hoo! I cancelled. Let's see what other adventures I will have with my new provider, whoever that is....
