i'm picking up a new phone in two months .... there are currently three I'm looking at but I'm not even sure if I can order them for ATT - will these three be availble by end of October - and, if so, which one is the best...
1) Siemens SL56 - its sleek, lightweight, small, and really really stands out
2) Sony Ericsson T616 - beautiful, feature-rich and I love ericsson
3) Sony Ericsson P800 - this phone apparently has everything in the world

According to the ATTWS site, both SE phones are currently available for use with their GSM service. However, the SL56 is not currently on their list of phones and I did not see anything about it when I was in a store last (about a month ago). I did read elsewhere that it was in the computer but not currently available for sale. Same with the new Samsung camera phone they are going to sell.
The T616 is listed at $199 with a $100 rebate (total $99 after rebate -- applies to new customers and existing customers with I think 6-8 months of service on their existing phones, as well as TDMA customers who are moving to GCM service)
The P800 is listed at a whopping $549 with no rebates. Personally I feel this is way too much for a cell phone. Especially considering the other choices with similar features are half that.

SE has also just introduced the P900, so it's not a good time to buy a P800 if you worry about having smart-phone-envy just a short time afterward.

As long as you've got an AT&T SIM card you can use just about any GSM phone you want if it is unlocked. I got a brand new R520m off eBay (unlocked) and the only thing I needed to do to get it working was take the SIM card out of my T306 and put it in the R520. The SIM card is the key to your phone account. With an unlocked phone you can use any provider's SIM cards and use any network you want.
The drawback to unlocked phones is you'll end up paying full retail price for them unless they're used or discontinued models. You get phones cheap or free from cellular providers because they subsidize the cost of the phone in trade for a one or two year contract. A P800 is really expensive when you buy it for the full retail price and the subsidized cost is quite a bit cheaper. If you want a P800 or P900 make sure you get it from a provider you won't mind being stuck with for a year!

Hello,
I just bought SE T616 but looks like there is a problem as far as coverage is concerned. it is a GSM 850/1800/1900 phone and not GSM 900/1800/1900.
I was told this may cause some problem in Europe. You must have 900/1800 to work seamlessle in Europe. the place where I bought told me that this is a popular phone and T-Mobile ran out of this. My first choice was Nokia 6350 but I decided to go with T616 because it looks cute - damn, NEVER GO BY LOOKS.
Let me know what you all think?

My contract with ATT expires this week and I'm kinda shopping around for the wireless provider. I might stick with ATT because their phones are far less pricey than the others. I'm considering either:
- Siemens SL-56 or - Sony Ericsson T616
Right now SL-56 costs $99 and T616 is free...... but I like the sliding design of SL-56.... any suggestions?
