From what I understand, only the AT&T Wireless name will return. It is still going to be Cingular service and plans. Just a name change.
The reason behind this change, is that SBC
(which just bought out its former parent AT&T <the old "Ma Bell"> and decided to keep the more well known name, and create "The New AT&T")
is attempting to buy Bell South. Bell South is also one of the original "Baby Bells" (like SBC) that spun of from the old MaBell back in 1984 when the old AT&T was broken up.
Bell South also happens to be one of the parent companies of Cingular, of which it holds a 40% stake (the other 60% belonging to the "New AT&T" <aka SBC>).
Pending the purchase of Bell South by "The New AT&T," the people at Cingular are likely getting ready to offer services along side the old Bell South under one umbrella brand name:
AT&T.
After Bell South is bought, their name will change to AT&T, so it is not too much of a strech to assume that the execs at "The New <and even bigger> AT&T" are going to want to streamline marketing and services across all of their holdings. This would include Cingular.
Bottom line, (literaly bottom line of this post ) Cingular's name will change to AT&T, but just that, the name.
PS. BTW, I found most of my info on wikipedia.org

Personally I dislike ATT due to prior service issues in past years and charges that were rediculous. I do NOT want to have ATT on my Cingular phones!!!!
Is this news report factually based? Are they really that serious to think that all these customers who were forced over to Cingular are going to take being forced BACK?
I spent the last while checking out the other wireless providers only to find that Cingular has the best coverage and options.... I am afraid that might change if they go back to being ATT.
WIth this possiblility in the air, I would like to purchase a new phone and put my existing sim card in it without renewing a contract with Cingular. My 2yr contract is up and we are now bascially month to month. Can I buy a phone from these places online without renewing a contract? What about the loss/damage coverage? Or my current subscriptions to web weather? |
It is true, but it's only a name change, nothing more. All current Cingular equipment will continue to work, and management will be the same as with Cingular. If you noticed the store "re-merchandising" you'll notice there are nearly no "jack" logo's anywhere in the store, so it's begun.
It is going to be confusing (and a mistake in my opinion), but it's really only cosmetic and no on should notice anything other than the name changing.

That's what they are telling us.. the attw company that merged into cingular 1 way or the other they Were different companies same cell phone technologies but different actual physical equipment/towers etc. it is going to confuse people very much. but they all tell us at&t (that is how to type it now not AT&T our merger papers had a whole paragraph explaining this LOL it's at&t with little letters now.. Whoa big marketing change LOL. I don't get it ma bell will be back but some advantage to customer's I hear rumors and they have test markets that cingular/at&t you will have lots of options like hopefully soon you can call at&t customers from a cell phone/to landline and be like it is now with mobile to mobile.

oh like little letters vs big letters is going to make a difference. To me it just looks like an English error. Typically I dont even add the & but to see it like that on a commercial or paper just looks wrong.
Nobody I know or call uses att so that would be no benefit. However, should they add something like what Altell has (my circle) that would be reason enough to write att on the check.... as long as I don't lose any features of my current plan.

The main reason they're making the name change is for better brand recognition... One commercial, same name = both divisions get viewed more (recognition). The same way verizon does with their commercials...

your rollover minutes are in the "bucket" for 12 billing cycles...then they expire....
example.... 100 minutes rollover from jun 2006 go into the bucket until june 2007 when they are replaced by the rollover minutes from june 2007
the 85 minutes may have been from the previous year
