Try the latest PC Studio PIMS from Samsung as EasyGPRS 2.1 is a very old version:

http://www.samsung.com/search/search.asp?qt=S300&la=en&col=wu+ws+downl oad&tabpage=1&radio=1&select=0&x=10&y=9#

Also make sure the usb cable that you got is compatible to S300. Not all cables work for S300 eventhough you can plug in the cable to your phone. Most Samsung phone share the same type of connector but not the same cable.

Is there any label on the cable? If yes, what is marked on the label. Usually, 3rd party usb cable has a label that marks the model #, like X426 for the cable that I got.

X100 use cable PCB133NSEC/STD and S300 use cable PCB093LBE. They are not the same. Return the cable to the shop and ask for a replacement or refund.

Have you change the Port setting in EasyGPRS or PIMS to use IrDA? Go to File - Setup and under Ports, change it to IrDA.
