I've got smartmoto and a USB cable and have them talking to each other. But :

1) Nothing happens when I click on the backup option for backing up the firmware.

2) I have a .40R firmware file that I am ready to flash to my V551. I ran the checksum option on this file and all the code files have mismatch errors except one (04 I think). Does that mean use the 04 file or does it mean don't use the flash file?

Any ideas? I don't want to fire that puppy unless it's cool.

Smartmoto it just for flashing alone, if you want to do anything like flash back up you need to have smart clip hook up to it to do so and it will save it i smf, meaning you have to use smart moto and smart clip to flash it back on. People keep saying back up your stuff but that is like you can back up flex using moto kit, you can back up seem , audio, ect.. but in order to back up full flash and PDS for your fone there no free software out there that i know of to do so. Flash back up kit is one that free but only allow you to back up if your bootloder is 07.OD, you fone have newer boot loder.
The 18.40r is good to flash in that is what i have for my V551 so you are very much good to go, if some thing happen don't mess with it send it to me and i'll fix it

Do I need to worry about the checksum errors or should I select the 04 file to flash?

Are you going to use smartmoto to flash? does it recognized your fone ? do you have PST multi Flash Flex? if you do have PST i would advised you to use PST. If not smartmoto is ok. make sure you have the version1.06. select PC flash

Yes, it recognizes the phone fine and pulls in the phone information no problem. I selected the flash file and ran a checksum on it and it failed all of the files with a mismatch error except one. I just don't know if that is a problem or not.

No, Don't have an un-branded flex file yet, need to do some looking. Can smartmoto do the flex as well?
