OK, major issue here. In my hometown, we have cingular and AT&T towers. I just got a new phone, and it said AT&T wireless on the screen (old one said Cingular) and it said I was roaming. I travelled tonight to my previous hometown, where all we have is cingular towers, and I get no service on this phone. WHY? I bought this off of eBay as an unlocked phone. I got it, put my SIM card in, turned it on. It detected my number and everything just fine. The only difference was that it said AT&T Wireless instead of the usual Cingular on my old phone. Now come here and I get no service at all (where other phones get perfect service). What could cause this? This is very urgent, so ANY help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin
P.S. I have tried searching for networks here, but I get nothing.

first off... is there an ATT logo on your sim or a cingular logo?
if ATT
your phone needs an update....*most* customer care reps know how to do this...but alas some dont... call cutomer care tell them you are activating a new device on the service... read them the IMEI from the phone
The IMEI can be displayed by dialling the code *#06#
write this number down its 15 digits long
give the care rep the imei and tell them your phone model is an X426...they will update your service and your phone will work...
if cingular
same except tell them its a 427M

The SIM card is a Cingular card and I am signed up with cingular. While in my hometown, I only pick up AT&T tower. But I think I figured out why. Cingular operates on 850, correct? My phone only works on 900/1800/1900. This is a Moto V80 (which I believe is a foreign phone). Is there any way at all to change the phone to work on Cingular's network or do I have to send it back?
Thanks.

Or will calling the service rep get this fixed for me? I didn't realize when I bought the phone that it wouldn't work here. Grrr.
Thanks. I'm leaving for a trip tonight, so wanted to get the phone working before then.
Thanks,
Kevin

actually your phone x427 m is 850/1900....a dual bad phone no 1800 or 900... your phone will only work in North America and siome bananna republics in central america
motorolas for the most part are quad band and some are tri band (your V80 is a triband) I dont know which version of the V80 you have,,, north american or european
like I posted before call customer care... give them your IMEI and phone model .... the number to call is 18003310500

I no longer have my samsung. Ran it over with a car. Hence the reason Ibought the v80. And it only operates 900/1800/1900 and the cingular towers in my area only operate on 850. So is a call to customer service really going to help me here or should I just return the phone to the seller?
thanks,
Kevin

That's kinda what took me awhile to figure out However, I spend the majority of my time where my phone says AT&T Wireless. The phone works fine there. Am I going to get charged roaming for using it there? Meh. Any phones you can recommend that are good(better) than the v80 and will work with cingular?
Thanks,
Kevin

roaming depends on your rate plan... gimme the rate plan title and I'll tell ya...
any phone that is 850 mhz capable will do it for ya... pick your flavour... I find nokia, motorola or samsungs work the best
